I love small press horror books. I love the 1980’s slasher movies I used to rent at VHS video stores. I loved the box art that may not have anything to do with the actual video inside. Being a child of the 80’s I grew up on a steady diet of these types of horror movies, and comic books,(and skate boarding but that is really irrelevant.) At just shy of 40, I still hold all these things dear still. But what does this have to do with comic books? There is a new comic debuting this weekend out of the UK that reminds me of all these things, called Video Nasty.
From Paul Cooke:
This coming Saturday sees the launch of a new Comic Book over here in the UK called Video Nasty.
A relevant title to those of us raised on the VHS Home Rental video tapes during the Eighties & the term ‘Video Nasties’ coined out of the witch hunt that came about during the early Eighties over the uncertified Horror / Violent movies that were available to the general public.
To have a comic book come out that takes that time period & creates a story around the era is a potential winner.
It will be a small run, with potential to become quite sought after.
It seems to be a monthly mini series of six issues, all with wonderfully gory artwork from the Video Nasty era !
The comic book is available from Forbidden Planet, but is also on offer from the production stable at a bargain buy first edition price of just £0.99 plus postage.

You should check out this film – Video Nasties: Moral Panic, Censorship and Videotape (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1740712/), which I saw at FrightFest (http://www.frightfest.co.uk/) a few years ago.
