Comics Picks of the Week for delivery 4/2/14

Yeah! New comics. I spent the day digging through long boxes at a couple shops. Looking forward to digging into new comics tomorrow.
each week hundreds of new comics are released. Each week, we pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here is this weeks, for delivery 4/2/14.
The small press gem / the new number 1:
Dead Letters #1 Boom has had a few minor success on the secondary market. This could be their first break out series.
The One everyone should get:
Black Science #5 book continues to rock. Also continues to pick up interested readers. Issue #2 spiked higher a while back.
The New Image #1:
Field #1 – Ed Brisson creator of Sheltered brings this new series, already sold out.
The new Garth Ennis book:
Caliban #1 Add in a favorite writer with an interesting story line and you have a potential for a hit.
The Other Image Zombie book:
’68 Rule of War– ’68 has been around for nearly a decade now. It does not get nearly the credit it should. It is based around the Night of the Living Dead timeline (unofficially). There were talks of a movie deal at one time. This one comes with a blank sketch cover, great for getting sketches done at a convention.
also shipping this week is one of my favorite new mini-series from Dark Horse, Bad Blood– A great concept about a kid with cancer who wants to die, until he finds out how ill he is. Edgar Allan Poe’s The Premature Burial> – Corban and Edger Allen Poe, cannot pass this up.
Well, that is it for us. Let us know what you are specing on this week.

  1. The only reason I’m gonna likely pick up a copy of Dead Letters and The Field is likely to sell.. I don’t see these going far, they all start out the same.. “Once upon a time… ” 😉
Oh and I like the ’68 series.
My money is on Caliban, but then Avatar seems to get carried away with limited special 2nd/3rd/4th print runs, with what seems to be pushing the “Only 1500 Printed” to drive more to buy them.. which is sort of annoying. Hopefully Caliban is like Ennis’s Red Rover Charlie.. without all the extra cover ordeals…
Black Science is a given. We need a thumbs up icon!

      1. Yeah, that worries me too. I think they consider them 2nd and 3rd printings, etc. But I never usually budge on those so not sure what they state on the publishing details page within the books.

      1. You can also look them up on the publishers website as well, they’ll usually state if it’s a mini-series.
