Max Brooks, the writer of World War Z, now a major motion picture (which really had nothing to do with the book) and The Zombie Survival Guide, is bringing his comic book ‘Extinction Parade‘ to TV via Legendary Television and Digital. The network has not been announced yet.
Bleedingcool reports:
New York Times Best-selling author Max Brooks, known for his zombie fiction in World War Z and the Zombie Survival Guide, launched a comic series with Avatar Press, Extinction Parade, in January of 2014 with artist Raulo Caceres. The property has now been optioned by Legendary Television and Digital as an original series. Brooks will be closely involved with the development of the TV series, and will write the Pilot episode.
Unsure how this will effect the prices of the Extinction Parade comic, but if I was going to hunt down copies, I would look for the Leather Variant for several reasons. First, they are limited to 1000 copies or less. Second, they grade high. There are copies cgc’d at 9.9 and 10.0.
I just sold the 2 copies of #1 that I had earlier today for cheap, then I read this… Probably should’ve held onto them a while longer.
very nice…I’ve been waiting for an announcement like this. I stocked up on the leather covers when it first came out.
very nice…I’ve been waiting for an announcement like this for a while. I stocked up on some leather covers when they first came out…red, platinum and gold. Cant wait to see what happens
finally! i been sitting on a red – silver – gold set signed CGC 9.9 and a red – silver – gold set CGC 10.0 lets see if it pays off
That is pretty sweet.
Also, welcome aboard. Not sure if you have been here a while but glad that you commented!
thanks!!! just found out about the page a couple months ago, IT ROCKS!
Thanks man, I appreciate it.
cool…you should see a nice little pay off. I just recently submitted 4 gold and 2 platinum to CGC for grading before this news came out. I’m pretty excited to see how they graded. Also have more than a few red leather covers sitting at home
I hit these pretty hard after WWZ came out hoping for a deal. Zombies and vampires are the hip thing. Good for us who have a rack of these! Speaking of horror, is anyone going all in on the new Kirkman book Outcast set to be released in a few months?
I am planning on getting 3 or 4 copies of outcast. I imagine it will have a pretty high print run, similar to walking dead, so I wasn’t going to go too crazy on it. A TV deal always helps though.
I’ll likely grab 2 of them myself. The print run is likely going to be high, it’s already picked up for a show so it won’t heat up due to that since well, that was announced before it even came out.. let’s just hope it doesn’t end up like Thief of Thieves.. great potential, now just kind of there, on the shelf each month…
The print run will be high, probably one of the biggest #1’s from Image for a couple reasons. 1. It is Kirkman, his name draws readers. 2. There is already a pre-existing media deal.
Also keep in mind, Thief of Thieves was also picked up by I think AMC long ago.. nothing new from what I recall, could just be dead as well. That’s the thing with TV and Movie studios, just because they pick something up doesn’t mean we’ll ever see them on the screen..
True but it sure helps with sales!
you can currently pre-order Outcast on DCBS for $1.49. I picked up a few…hard to pass up.
Oh yeah, use the movie or TV news for comics to make great profits with flips.. The only downside to Outcast is:
a) It’s Robert Kirkman (Oprah of Comics currently), so print run will be larger than other Image #1s
b) It’s already been announced as option for movie/TV deal, so everyone already knows, won’t affect the price like it would have if it was announced after the comic was already out and released.
c) Did I mention it’ll have a huge print run? It’s gonna be really easy to get most likely.
yeah, that’s why I’m not going to get too many of them. I expect minimal profits.
My current rule is with Image #1, at minimum, pick up 2 if they look remotely interesting. If the heat is already picking up on them, I’ll pick up more. If it looks like it’s nothing special, I might pick up 1 copy. I did happen to only pick up 1 copy of mini-series, they seem to die quickly since ongoing issues that remain popular will usually increases as more readers discover them.
I’m a big Avatar fan in general, I pick up extinction parade #1, but found the story lacking and didn’t go in for 2. Did the story improve?
Also, whatever happened with the kirkman book hardcore? #1 was pretty good and then never another word.
And one more question. Is this the first avatar book picked up for a media deal?
I believe Stitched had a movie. Straight to DVD
Yeah, Hardcore from Kirkman was very interesting to me as well, but seems to be only a One Shot for now.. I’d almost rather see him do Hardcore than his new Outcast comic..
so whats up with sonic the hedgehog #259
