Comics picks of the week for delivery 5/7/14

Hey everyone, Wednesday is upon us again. That means a slew of new comic books ripe for the picking. As you know, each week, hundreds of new books hit the shelves, each with potential. We spotlight the ones we think have the best shot at heating up.
The one you are probably getting anyway:
Nailbiter #1– the hands down spec winner of the week. Super creepy new Image #1 (shocker I know). This book has a lot of heat behind it on the blogs and message boards. In addition, it is SOLD OUT going into Wednesday. This is a no brainer for me as I love horror. There are 6 covers to it, including a Phantom Variant and a Third Eye Comics cover (both of which I will have for sale.)
The other Image #1
Madame Frankenstein #1 It always bugs me when people refer to Frankenstein’s monster as Frankenstein, but I digress. Again, a new Image book, a new horror themed book, and at $2.99 so I am in. This book is SOLD OUT going into Wednesday. Not a superstar creative team, even though Jamie Rich is writing it, so I cannot see orders being huge on it. definitely worth the price of admission.
The surprise Avatar book:
Caliban #2 It is not a surprise the book was good, after all Garth Ennis is writing it, the surprise is there is an Avatar book on the list. Good psychological horror and suspense in four-color form here.
The return to the 90’s one:
Chaos #1 The 90’s, a time when bad girls reigned supreme, seem to be creeping back. Chaos comics, formerly home to Lady Death and Evil Ernie (both licenses held by different companies), was the premiere bad girl company back in the day. Here they are bringing back some of their beloved characters. This book is almost SOLD OUT moving into Wednesday. Lot’s of former collectors scrambling for the book.
The small press gems:
Epic #1 Small press book from Comixtribe, home of the great Red Ten and Scam. Super hero comedy where the titular character “Literally” has a weakness for beautiful women.
Necromantical #1 Ardden Comics new release. Already SOLD OUT. What’s it about?

The next sci-fi phenomenon starts right here! In a near-future world where global pollution is killing humanity, only the wealthy can survive thanks to the transplant of artificial organs, leaving the other 99% to die slowly, painfully. Clive Sparks is a policeman in search of a missing young girl taken by a gang of organ traffickers. He also happens to be the first hybrid experiment of a human crossed with a robot, and he is looking for the truth at any cost. In a world on the edge of catastrophe, a half-artificial police man may just be the only hope for the whole human race.

The Woods #1– Interesting new series from Boom! Studios, which just happens to be about SOLD OUT going into Wednesday.
Also out is Rat Queens #6 glad to see the book back from hiatus. Moon Knight #3 loving the new take on the character.
That’s it for us this week. Let us know what you are spec-ing on.

  1. Do you think the Supreme relaunch will have any success? I was thinking about getting his first appearance since it’s not going to be an expensive investment.

  2. I just had to order Woods #1 from Midtown.. two of the local shops I frequent had them (one didn’t even order them apparently). TFAW shows them in BackOrder status. Anyone else pick these up?

      1. I’m curious on the print run now. One of the shops didn’t surprise me in maybe passing it up but the other usually gets a copy of everything out each week, even if they order a handful. Hmmm..
I sure hope it’s good, I wasn’t too impressed with the writer when he took over Talon, but then again, Scott Snyder set the bar high on that one..

      1. I’m checking one other shop today after work. I did order 4 copies from Midtown though, 2 of the cover C and hopefully 1 each of A and B (midtown lists them as random covers, hopefully they don’t give me two of the same cover)

      2. Graham crackers is listing cover B as 1:10 and cover C as 1:5. So it looks like cover B will be the one to get (besides the 1:25)

      3. The third shop had them. Picked up Covers A and B, although they only had one of Cover B left so I snagged it for sure.

  3. Woods print run should come in at over 13k. My guess is retailers didn’t order it because it was boom! And not image

    1. My store is usually pretty good with Boom. They had some Dead Letters today. Unfortunately, they only had Nailbiter out of the list above. They either got shorted, or it all went to pulls.

      1. One shop was shorted with the Caliban covers, said they came damaged so were returned for exchange. All the others were at my shops except Woods. Tons of Nailbiters though at each shop, that one is gonna be easy to get for sure.
