1. UPDATE: WALKING DEAD #127 (IMAGE), $2.99
WHY? NEW BEGINNING for the group. I personally haven’t kept up with WD, but I hear this will be crazy, like 2 years in the future crazy. Also sets up the introduction of a new character. I guess it’ll be time for me to jump on. Plus a 6- page coloured preview of the upcoming series, OUTCAST.

WALKING DEAD #127
2.United States of Murder #1 (Icon/Marvel), $3.90
Releasing: May 14th 2014
WHY? Bendis’ Powers has a solid fan-base, and enjoys perennial rumors of being brought to television. Another comic of Bendis under Icon/Marvel banner was Scarlet. Thought provoking, enjoyable, and read like a television drama, albeit highly political, it also could have been easily adapted. Bendis’s newest release under Icon, could be the strongest candidate for television yet.
Synopsis: DOUBLE-SIZED FOR REGULAR PRICE!
From the creators of the Eisner Award-winning, best-selling POWERS comes a brand-new world of crime fiction like you’ve never seen before. In this oversized first issue, you will discover a world in which the families of organized crime never lost their stranglehold on the United States.
Today is the day that Valentine Gallo becomes a made man, and it’s also the day he learns the secrets behind the organization he has served since he was old enough to walk. But it is mysterious hitwoman Jagger Rose that will forever turn his life upside down. Be there when shocking secrets of this new world spill out onto the very past page.
This bold new vision of crime fiction harkens back to Bendis’ earliest work in crime comics, while also giving you everything you expect from the creators of POWERS, one of the most successful and longest-lasting independent comics in history. (TFAW)
United States of Murder #1
3. Bee and Puppycat #1 (BOOM! Studios), $3.99
Releasing: May 14th 2014
WHY? This is marketed towards children, but adults will find it just as charming. It looks like a very real-life tale (main character- ‘forever-unemployed’??) with a magical twist. If Allegri’s past accomplishments are of indication at all, this will be an instant sell out. Also it not being a high-profile superhero/toy/cartoon related comic (ie. My Little Pony, Adventure Time, Ben 10), it will be ordered in far less quantities.
Synopsis: WHY WE LOVE IT: Because Natasha Allegri is simply amazing. She built up a big fan-following on Tumblr while working on the Adventure Time cartoon, then created gender-swapped characters (Fionna and Cake) that became so popular they put them into the show. Then, she created BEE AND PUPPYCAT and it became the most funded web series project in Kickstarter history. How could we NOT publish it?
WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT: You might already love it if you’re one of the thousands who supported the Kickstarter campaign, but for those of you just joining us, if you like stories that feature magical girls like SAILOR MOON, MADOKA MAGICA, and POWERPUFF GIRLS, you will enjoy BEE AND PUPPYCAT! It’s a slice-of-life story with a twist, and it has so much comedy and enchantment you can’t help but be swept up.
WHAT IT’S ABOUT: It’s a quirky new take on the magical girl genre with Bee, the forever unemployed main character who can’t seem to figure out life, and the mysterious PuppyCat, a stray…whatever it is…that she stumbled across who has a powerful secret. Fighting bad guys has never been so funny. (TFAW)
Bee and Puppycat #1
PAST RELEASES:
5. Haunted #1 (Red 5), $3.50
Released: April 30th 2014
WHY? I missed out on this book several weeks ago and I hear that Bryan Singer’s company, Bad Hat Harry productions holds the rights and has optioned it for a movie. This comic was ostensibly a FCBD book, but I never saw it in any LCS’s I visited! Maybe ask your LCS guys to give you a free copy they may have lying around?

Now a lone survivor may hold the key to closing the barrier, but first she must run a gauntlet of ghosts in the most haunted city in the world. Haunted #1
VARIANT SECTION:
6. Afterlife With Archie #5 Veronica Pepoy Variant (Archie), $2.99
Releasing: May 14th 2016
WHY? AH the Pepoy variants. This book has been long awaited, and already heavily spec’d with the sell out of Afterlife with Archie #1 Betty zombie/lingerie variant selling out. The Pepoy variants are real cute! Plus, as they are regular priced, so grab a couple!
Synopsis: Escape from Riverdale, Part 5 [of 5]: The do or die moment has arrived! With Lodge Manor under siege by flesh-eating zombies, and the rest of Riverdale in flames, the surviving members of our beloved gang must make a fateful decision: Do they stay in the only home they’ve ever known, or take their (slim) chances in the outside world? And if they go, where will they go? And does that mean they leave their undead pals ‘n gals behind forever? The most earth-shattering decisions will be made in Riverdale history in the newest installment of this TEEN + series! Definitely NOT for all ages! (TFAW)
Afterlife With Archie #5 (Pepoy Variant Cover)
In closing,
I was going to ignore The Walking Dead #127 because last month’s #126 was IMO kind of a let down, with no major deaths or new characters from that issue. Even so, I always know WD is huge and every issue is worth grabbing, so it’s really a no brainer for speculators and collectors. I wanted to keep it that way, until I got word from some that there will major changes and this issue is a KEY. So here you go everyone, grab this month’s WD #127, while they last!
United States of Murder #1, will be a toss up this week, Bendis’s books haven’t really heated up in the aftermarket, as he is a polarizing writer in comic-dom. However, this will be a double sized book for regular price, I would pick up 1 copy, if not for the spec of it being translated into tv/movie, than just to read.
Bee And Puppet #1, will be under ordered. If fans of Adventure Time come looking for this, it will be long gone. Adventure Time with Finn and Jake #1 is now priced from $35.99-$50 on Ebay NM raw, and Adventure Time with Fiona and Cake #1 are hard to come by, with only the Hastings variant selling on Ebay for $30 NM raw. Grab 1-2 copies.
Haunted #1 is still available at a decent price on Ebay with prices from $5.99- $10.00 (plus shipping). I would even try searching stores for it, as it hasn’t caught on quite yet with speculators. Partly due to the fact that a film option, does not mean a film. I’ve noticed this trend with comic speculators in the last 6 months or so. With so many movie/tv news coming out every week, many are now wary of this kind of news, after getting burned in the past. That’s why I never endorse hoarding comics (unless you get a lot for amazingly cheapo prices), using prudence in decisions can work just as well, especially for the budget collector.
After Life with Archie #5, is a must get for collectors this week. With AWA #1 Pepoy lingerie variant selling out, commanding prices of $25 (BIN) on Ebay, many still feel the Veronica cover will be even more sought after. I’m also assuming it will be at a lower print than AWA#1, well because it’s a #5 issue. Grab 2-3 copies.
This week is a quiet one overall, so I would suggest grab a couple copies of Moon Knight #1 ( Yes I know….I didn’t spec on it, but then I missed the fact that Warren Ellis was writing it, so my apologies! It seems primed to be the next break out title for Marvel. So far, with excellent reviews of Ellis and Shalvey treatment of the character, and new take on the costume is totally fresh (why didn’t anyone think of that before?). Grab 1-3 copies of 1st print immediately.
Until Next Week….
