Comics Picks of the Week for delivery 6/4/14

Each week hundreds of new books hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to it,some don’t. We give our picks each week for the ones we think could heat up. The hits keep coming each week with books heating up a day or two after it is released. We have seen quite a few of them over the past three consecutive weeks. These books have included Invincible 111, Itty Bitty Bunnies, and last weeks Brass Sun. Hope the trend continues as those in the know keep profiting off it.

The big small press release:
Big Trouble In Little China #1 – no way to pass up the heat behind this book. There are quite a few variants for it, including the fun Third Eye Comics variant which I will have.
The big follow up issues:
Nailbiter #2 – a winner from last month, Nailbiter took off and was doing well. The second issue usually always has a drop off in orders and is worth the pick up, not to mention it is a good read.
The Woods #2 – Great first issue and a sell out for this new. Book from Boom. Boom are putting out quality books. Another winner from last month.
The ones everyone will want to pick up:
DC Bombshell variants – sure, these might get hot and fizzle like the 3d covers, but some of them are damn fine.
Green Lantern #32
Action Comics #32 this weeks winner bombshell cover
Earth 2 #24
The one with the cool Variant:
Five Ghosts #12 Phantom Variant – Chew’s Rob Guillory does this fantastic Beatles Abbey Road homage. Still a great book and waiting for the big announcement from the creative team
The odd one:
The Superannuated Man #1 – I like Ted McKeever’s work. Strange and good reads, will not have a huge print run like most new Image series.
That’s it for us this week, let us know what you re spec-ing on.

  1. Buy Big Trouble Little China.. both of the nearest shops were completely out in my area. One shop wasn’t surprising since they don’t order as much but the other usually always has comics in stock, they were completely out. I just ordered two of the 1:10 variants online and picked up a few from Midtown before they likely run out.

  2. Got two different covers for Princess Ugg and Big Trouble. My shop only had three total for Big Trouble. He said he had no idea that it had any buzz. I would take Drew’s advice and buy this book ASAP. I also picked up Superannuated Man, Nailbiter #2, Rise of the Magi and the bombshell variant. Finished off with Original Sin, Iron Fist, The Wake and Moon Knight. Wasn’t a cheap week by any means.

    1. Yeah, my usual shop said he had no desire for Big Trouble and didn’t get that many adding it to their pull lists, etc.

  3. Not sure if this has been mentioned here yet, but my LCS owner mention to me that DC is doing the 3D variants again in September, and that he has already placed his orders. He said that this year the owners are placing orders first and DC is printing to the orders. I’m not sure what that means for demand, and print run, but I’m still pretty excited considering I thought they were great covers last year (albeit not all that relatively valuable).

    1. Yea, my shop asked me to fill out a paper to request my 3D pulls. Forgot though. Not too worried about it as there were plenty available last time.

  4. Big Trouble was classic.. I’m hooked, brought back old memories of the movie. Now I plan to watch the movie again.
