Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 7/2/14

Summer always means crazy release schedules. This summer has had a couple of big weeks back to back. This week is another one. Each week hundreds of new books are released, we pick the ones we think have the best shot of heating up. Here is this weeks:
The Small Press Gem / pick of the week:
Enormous #1 It started with the 2012 release of Enormous #1 Image, a treasury size release. Now it continues. Incredible art and story. Small print run, small publisher. Sold out in advance. There is also a cool Johnnie Christmas (Sheltered) Phantom Variant which can be found at www.larryscomics.net (or through me, just hit me up.)

The outside chance pick of the week:
Tom Clancey’s Splinter Cell Echoes #1– Yes, it is a mini. But there is no denying that Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell games are massive hits. With millions of players, there could be great cross over potential. This one is also written by Nathan Nathan Edmondson, writer of The Activity, which had been optioned a while back.
The big three book that could still shoot up:
Rocket Raccoon #1 – Sure, there will be a quarter of a million copies released. But even with big number books, we can see an increase in price. Plus, everything Rocket has turned into flipable money.
The follow up one to a recent hot book:
Figment #2 – Sure this is a soft ball one. Figment was heavily desired by non-comic collectors as the titular character is also a popular Disney theme park character. Second issues often have a smaller print run than the first. If that is the case many people will be scrambling to find copies of this one too.
TPB pick of the week:
Wonton Soup – James Stokoe, of Orc Stain fame. Reprinting the hard to find space trucker / cooking epic.
