Action Comics #1 CGC 9.0 Sells for World-record $3.2M

In case you haven’t seen.
From CGC’s press release.

The bidding is over! Action Comics #1 (white pages, graded CGC 9.0) became the most expensive comic book in the world after the highly publicized eBay auction closed on Sunday evening at a record-breaking $3.2 million.
CGC holds the distinction as the only certification company that has graded every comic book to sell for over six figures — including six comic books that sold for more than $1 million and now the record-setting $3.2 million Action Comics #1.

Now a couple of things have happened along with this sale.
1. My mom calls me and asks me if I have a copy and I should sell it. (She doesn’t understand the comic market)
2. Co-workers who know I am into comics swear that their uncle/father/brother/cousin has a first print copy (They do not understand the rare comic market)
3. And Most importantly, re-print copies have jumped in price.
The Action Comics #1 1988 reprint is selling for $70-80 in nm condition. (I know I have one of these somewhere.) It has sold as high as $152.
The Action Comics #1 1983 Nestle reprint is going for $50-70 in near mint.
An Action Comics #1 1976 Safeguard reprint sold for $1450.

  1. You know the worst part about this is? Ebay got 10% of that sale.. sigh! 😉
And that’s hilarious in your #2. I know people like that, even when I talk about coins, someones always got this rare super valuable coin their relative has. I just learned to nod and smile, nod and smile. 🙂

    1. I hear it all the time. I also get the “I have some valuable comics from when I was a kid, could you look at them” and the response is sure bring them by. What I usually get is a couple of old Wizard Magazines and one or two “collectors item” comics from the 90’s

      1. Haha. Probably one reason I don’t even mention what I collect around work or friends I don’t know too well, just to avoid the stories and these types of scenarios. 🙂
