What type of variant would you prefer?

Just for fun. I have always (well since I started this website) wanted to do my own variant. So thinking about this got me wondering, what type of variant would a collector prefer.

So of the three types I like, pick which one you like best. (Do not read too much into this it is just for fun.)
A blank variant where you could have a sketch done (I love these but an exclusive to a store and not just the general blank)
A Black and White art edition with new exclusive art.
A Black and White art edition with the existing cover art (Same cover as let’s say 1a but in black and white)

Take the poll (it’s been a while since I did one) and let us know.

  1. 1) Blank 2) B/W Existing art 3) New B/W art
I love having other artists renditions most of all but do greatly appreciate original B/W artwork to admire the core of the process.

  2. Blanks are great when you visit Cons but if I’m just straight up buying a variant at the LCS, I prefer New art B&W variants. Sometimes the original cover art as black and white is cool but those are too easy, give me new original art to look at.

  3. A blank offering the opportunity for any artist you’d like is always awesome and allows for something one of a kind for your collection. Doesn’t everyone need a Rob Guillory sketch on a blank? Come to the blank side Poyo lol.

    1. Actually, I have a bunch of blanks piling up in one Long Box, my plan is to do my own sketches on them when I actually have more spare time. 🙂

        1. Haha.. I did pile up on some Walking Dead #115 blanks, had some ideas for some cool sketches. They are waiting to be pulled for sure.. 🙂

                1. It’s a start.. I was curious, I’ve never drawn a dead horse so I started doodling at work, threw in the zombie! Rough rough sketch though, 5 minute type sketch. 🙂

                2. Only thing missing is the bewildered goat eating the zombie’s shoelace. And as a professional art critic I can say, dead horse needs more tongue hanging out. Everyone knows that. (Horses can’t vomit, just saying, weird huh?)
Just kidding (except for the horse vomit, that is true), awesome. Thanks for that! made my day at work.

                3. Yeah, I ran out of paper to throw in the goat. I wanted to just sketch the dead horse (since I never thought to draw a dead horse, ever).
It motivated me to perhaps make it happen now, a special CHU Walking Dead #115 special sketch.. 😉
I did not know horses could not vomit, then again, I don’t think I ever thought about it either. I knew rats couldn’t (probably primary reason rat poison works, they don’t have a gag reflex to vomit it out after ingesting).

                4. Horses can’t vomit it’s random but true. I didn’t know about the rats. I won’t go into the conversation too much I it was a fact on a snapple cap but we got talking about hand grenades and euthanasia. The stuff that comes up wen you are sober and a bunch of others are drunk.

  4. Original art can be done in a sketch book or on a piece of paper. If you’re into CGC or other grading companies for books, a sketch on a comic could actually decrease the value if the sketch was not witnessed. I like a black and white of the same original cover. It lets you see the artists work before it gets the color and touch up treatment. I personally would like to put a cap on how many variants are made. They kind of flood the industry at the moment.

  5. New art, full color, no logos. I’m getting tired of the lego/cute animal/8-bit/toddler hero craze. I have liked the homages to classic covers of late but that may wear on me eventually. That Spread 2nd print action figure packaging design was absolutely outstanding, unfortunately concepts that good and executed that well are few and far between.

    1. Yeah, the Lego and 8 bit variants are cute (also getting sort of old) but I do enjoy original stuff better. The 2nd print Spread #1 was classic, probably a first of it’s kind. That originality is what grabs my attention.
I also love the virgin covers, original art or new art, those are just cool. No bar codes and labels plastered all over the front.

        1. I dislike the selfie craze right now, it needs to die quickly. So I didn’t bother with the DC selfie variants.
Some of the Bombshell variants I liked, I like that style of old fashion they give off.
