Runaways, the Brian K. Vaughn Marvel Mutant series, was a fan favorite for BKV before he was BKV. At one point it was being looked at for a film. That went away. It appears Marvel is looking at it for a TV show. (BKV did state he had big news for Image Expo in January, but I doubt he would announce a Marvel tv show here.)
This one may be obscure, but Liberty Voice ran a story that Marvel snuck in a nearly unnoticed few quotes about it.
Sites set on a more underdeveloped team in their roster and planning to capture a teenage audience, the comic book and superhero conglomerate proclaimed that they were in the works of making The Runaways a television series.
Revealed during the question and answer portion of the Marvel’s set during the Phase Three announcement, Kevin Feige gave viewers the inkling that The Runaways just might be the next set of heroes to make it big in the cinematic and television universe. Rumors that the team were going to become a full-length movie circulated all over the blogs and news papers for the past year. When Feige was asked whether the film was just a fanboys’ and girls’ imagination running wild or an actual concept brought to life, he responded by claiming that the script was still in the “vault” and would probably be turned into an ongoing television series.
An ongoing tv show would drive the prices of he already hard to find Runaways #1. Deals can still be found on it though.
Can’t we just approve all of BKV’s work to be green lit for the screen?! Yay?!
so say we all?
I am a Huge Runaways Fan! I still write-in to Marvel at least once a year to beg for the series’ return. And the film treatment actually made it all the way to the Casting Stage when it was suddenly put on Pause. I want to say it was the year before Avengers came out, prior to “Guardians of the Galaxy” being greenlit, and they decided it was too early in the cinematic universe to have the concept of superheroes & supervillains widely-known and commonplace around the world, for the kids to have a cabal of supervillain parents. I remember at the time, a lot of people were confused about who The Runaways were. Some people thought the Runaways parents were the major villains of the Marvel Universe like Red Skull, Dr. Doom, Magneto, etc. Ok, technically, Victor Mancha is the son of Ultron, but he joined-up later on, lol. And then there was the camp that thought the Runaways were the future children of Captain America, Thor, Ant-Man, etc, lol. A lot of people to set straight & urge them to read the back-issues because they’re That Good! And it’s such a shame that the last volume of Runaways ended on a Cliffhanger and they have never resolved that storyline, even with the characters appearing in other books. They claimed the book wasn’t cancelled, it was on “hiatus” for some re-tooling/re-packaging before bringing it back, but it never came back. And I’ve met Kathryn Immonen afterward, and begged her to tell me what she had in store for those next few issues, and she told me she isn’t allowed to disclose the conclusion of that storyline in case someday Marvel decides to use it. Arg!
Speculation-wise; especially with the notion of a TV Series instead of a Film, there would be more likelihood that characters who showed up later-on in the series would be used. The 1st appearances of Victor Mancha, Xavin, and Klara Prast are still super-cheap:
Runaways (vol 2 / 2005) #1, 7, & 27
It’s also possible that #8 could be important, since I don’t think Xavin changed into her current primary form (taking on a female body after learning that his betrothed is a lesbian) until that issue. And #27 was part of Joss Whedon’s run on the book, so with Klara created by him, if he has any influence on the Show, he could want her included. Victor Mancha is a shoe-in, though, considering Ultron is his father, and there’s that big “Age Of…” something-or-other coming to theaters next year…
Is there a variant issue#1 of the 2nd series or is that a 2nd print?
The sketch cover that says “Limited Edition” is actually a 2nd Print. That was before they started terming them “2nd Print Variant”. Just like a lot of things, it gets tricky digging through backissues and not knowing what you’re looking at. DC’s 2nd Prints & Variants not being marked in any way on the cover is always problematic for me.
i didn’t know that bro thanks
i will only buy 1st print of 2nd series
as far as i know no variant or 2nd print but they did do a marvel must haves that reprinted 1 and 2 of 2003 series
i just got my 1-10 of 2003 series out and will re read them
my number one is in great condition but only have one copy
can a omnibus be far behind
I’ve got all of the single issues, and I bought the original releases of the first 3 hardcover Omnibuses. It’s always worth a re-read; I love this series. They never did one for the end of the series, though… considering how it prematurely ended & vanished into limbo. 🙁 And I like consistency with my bookshelf. It irks me that the final volumes of Peter David’s X-factor were never released in Hardcover; so collecting the Hardcovers all along, there’s suddenly only softcover available for the final bunch.
the runaways 2003 number 1 print run is just under 26000
these kids are all mutants… how does Marvel have the ability to do anything with them?
They are not the children of the X-men nor did they start in x-men proper. They are children of super villians

Actually, Molly Hayes is the only one who is a Mutant out of the original cast. Nico is a blood ritual spellcaster, Gert has time travel tech & a Dinosaur (Old Lace!), Chase has Fistigons (tech), Karolina is an Alien, etc. I assume with Molly they will just make her an Inhuman or have her powers defined differently. Runaways isn’t an X-book, so they have no worries about Fox licensing issues.
as for that runaways 2005 series 1 its a variant
mile high comics has copies for cheap
don’t know ratio of 1 print but
