End of the year means a small week, so normally we would say, hundreds of comics hit the shelves each week, but not this week. We still pick the ones we think have the best shot of heating up, and since there are not many it is not a tough shot to guess which one we see the most potential in. Here is our picks of the week for delivery on New Years Eve, 12/31/14:
There are 8 (as I counted) new books coming out this week, with several variants pushing the total up slightly. Here is the list of books coming out:
ALL NEW MIRACLEMAN ANNUAL #1
BATMAN ETERNAL #38
EARTH 2 WORLDS END #13
EAST OF WEST #16
NEW 52 FUTURES END #35 (WEEKLY)
SHIELD #1
STAR TREK PLANET OF THE APES #1 (OF 5)
X-O MANOWAR #31
So on to the Picks of the Week:
The (No Brainer) Pick of the Week:
ALL NEW MIRACLEMAN ANNUAL #1– Seriously, new Miracleman. Something fans of the original series have been looking forward to for a while. First, you have the “lost” never published Grant Morrison story. Then you have Mike Allred doing a Peter Milligan new story. Sold. And will sell out I would imagine.
The one with the media tie-in:
SHIELD #1– Bare with me. Phil Coulson is a name even non-comic fans are starting to recognize as he is in every Marvel movie and the SHIELD TV show. But I think the best bet on this book lies in the variants, especially the SHIELD #1 Party Variant. The SHIELD #1 Party Variant has a couple of things going for it, first up is it has Deadpool on it. Even with the market saturation of Deadpool covers, people still eat them up (there is a really bad pun here so stick with it). This cover in particular has Deadpool writing on a chalkboard and has part of a recipe there. One ingredient in particular makes this one either a really bad coincident or just a funny/nasty lack of editing on a joke. (See picture, highlighted area)
There is a Color SHIELD #1 Party Variant and a Sketch SHIELD #1 Party Variant. The color version can be picked up for a steal, as low as $5.95
Abigail and the Snowman is my pick of the week.
Its not a bad pick. I really think the Miracleman annual could brcome a convention wall book with a lot of life to it.
Yeah, I tried to get into Mircleman, just can’t for some reason. I have zero desire to read it.
It’s tough to read in the Marvel format. I like the classic Issues better and the Warrior Magazine issues best.

That’s also my pick up for the week. Not for a flip for my daughter. I’d say the Deadpool variant is the clear flip winner if found at cost. It would go even higher if Tony pointing that out got it on the recall list. Lol. Never know.
If I actually find the Deadpool Sketch at cover, I’ll send your way.. 😉
Hunt for the Abigail variant though.. it’s already sold out at Midtown and a few other online retailers from my searches..
Oh and the highlighted funny on the Deadpool cover, I’m pretty sure it’s “cumin” it’s suppose to say.. Still funny nonetheless! 🙂
I am sure the recipe calls for cumin. But still, I think the editors slipped on this and it is worth picking up for the novelty.

Yeah I found the deadpool sketch one at one of my LCS, they are asking $40. The bad news is that they open at 9 and I’m at work at that time, and they are on fist come first serve bases on all of their variants and won’t hold for no one. So that sucks. Oh and Tony I have ur book. Will email you some pics later tonight when I get home.
Cool. Like who wants to be a millionaire you need to phone a friend to get that book. (Dated reference i know)
That’s one reason I love my job, very flexible schedule. I pick up my comics on the way to work, usually stroll in around 10am on Wednesdays. (I can literally work anywhere I have an internet connection). 🙂
I know right. I mean I get along with the owner and he used to hold the variants for me but people started to complain so he just started that policy so yeah. I mean it is understandable for people who don’t work that day to complane lol
A teaspoon doesn’t sound like a whole lot…lol. Have a great New Years guys!
Lol. More than I’d want to find hidden in my food.
