Wednesday Winner: Teen Age Mutant Ninja Turtles #44

This Wednesday there was a clear winner, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #44
Thanks to everyone who was dropping messages to me today, sadly I was in a conference and couldn’t get this out there sooner.
The reason why is a spoiler so stop here if you do not want to know.
You good, still here?
Ok then here we go….
One of the famous four turtles, Donatello dies.
Prices of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #44 have jumped to $45 for the set of cover a and b and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #44 variant is going for more than $100.
Grab copies where you can. Hit the local shops. I was able to snag four sets today at different shops.
Happy hunting.

  1. Yup, I grabbed 3 sets of covers A and B. Two sets already sold. Easy money on this one, clearly the winner.. it’s always the quiet ones as well, the ones you wouldn’t expect.

      1. Yup, I dumped 4 copies which paid for all 6 I grabbed and still made $50+ profit so I’m good. Gonna hang on to my last two for the collection. (Yes, I love what I sell.. I’m just glad it’s not drugs, I’d be in trouble). ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. Mike’s not too bad.
Sorry Poyo, but it’s for the best. At least I assume it’s for the best. I don’t really read the turtles. For shame, I know.

  2. Struck out at two LCS but secured 2 copies on all three covers online for cover through separate orders. My two copies of both A&B shipped today but the 1:10 variants are still pending. I’d be happy with just one so fingers crossed.
I did some poking around online and after reading the preview for #45 it seems this series will be ending at issue 50. I hope not but that’s how I understood it. Also found an article with the writer published in January. This article makes it seem like he might not be coming back as soon as some might think:

What’s your take from the interview? Not just the death but the series going forward.

    1. It sounds like the series isn’t ending after issue #50. Also, whats up with the Turtle Kids on that cover ?

Folks, clearing the air here. IDW’s #TMNT doesn’t end at #50. It’s a grand finale of sorts, but the series will continue. We have big plans!

    1. here is the solicit:
Minutes remain before the Technodrome fully activates and Shredder, Krang and the Turtles all vie for control. No side will be left unscathed in this epic climax as one character makes an ultimate sacrifice!

  3. If anyone is in Huntington, WV on April 11, Tricon (Tri-State Comic Con) is going on. That’s where you can pick up the Retailer Exclusive cover for TMNT # 44……
This baby is gonna be rare !

  4. Went to the only two comics shops in the area. No tmnt covers A and B. BUUUUUT I SCORED A 1:10 VARAINT FOR $6.95 :DDDDDD

  5. Sold 2 full sets for $130 and $140 and a couple of a and b’s for 45 a piece…today was a good day

  6. I bet he’s not dead and when the next issue comes out and he’s alive, just badly wounded.. prices are gonna drop fast.. one thing for sure in the comic world, superheroes don’t stay dead long and the comic they die in fade quickly in price as well.. sell’em while you can. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. Oh, about FCBD.. scheduled a camping trip with friends on May 1st weekend.. not realizing it’s first Saturday in May.. totally gonna miss FCBD this year.. sigh!

          1. A true gentleman… I’ll have to get a good list. I usually load up with every copy at one shop that doesn’t limit customers.. but there’s always just a handful I really end up keeping for myself.

      2. If you can’t nab certain issues Poyo needs lmk and I’ll get them. I’ll send em to you. Got my daughter going with me this year so I can get multiples.

      3. Thanks Nicc T, I usually take my kids with me as well. Dragon’s Lair says limit 1 per customer on every title but sometimes you accidently grab two, etc. It’s so fast and they usually have lines waiting around the building, more than enough to go around. But yeah, this year looks good for kids.. lots of titles the kids would love to have.

    1. +1!
Sell immediately. You can’t kill off a TMNT! Even if so, he will be back.
Second, death issues become kindling when they return.

  7. I sold the only one I was able to find today (Cover A. I was out of town on business yesterday so missed all the hoopla) for $30, 30 minutes after I listed it. Then I called around and got another Cover A and B tonight. Those are going up in the morning.

  8. IDW needs to play this smart……..if they are going to bring him back,at least wait a year to do it…and tell no one of his return !

  9. I’m on vacation too. Got two in my box. If the heat dies before I get back I can just put them on the shelf. Mikey as been my turtle but my oldest daughter loves Donny and was upset. I said it’s comics dear, he’ll be back. So precious this is her first comic book death.

  10. Struck out at 3 LCSs yesterday and while I was in 2 of the shops they got phone calls asking for copies. May have to venture outside of the city to the less traveled stores today in hopes of finding a few for the quick flip

  11. I had called a local shop and located the 1:10 variant which the store mentioned it was $10, but when I showed up to pick it up, they mentioned the price is now at $75 ๐Ÿ™

      1. yes!, to have the priced confirmed over the phone, then drive 20 mins away to find out they didnt honor the price, and listed (8x) more was pretty messed up.

      2. There’s a chain shop in the Philly area that pulls that shit all of the time, usually with hot Image titles and their Ghost variants they have in piles of hundreds. I’m not naming them, though if you’re from around here I Bet ykNow Who they are.

  12. yes, that sounds like a great place to shop. I am definetley going to leave a negative review on their yelp page. Why would I go to a local comic store when the prices are the same from Ebay ? why would I waiste my gas & time ?

      1. Nope, preview of #45 shows him alive, don’t even have to see FCBD issue. I actually stated previously we didn’t have enough to go on if he was actually dead or not. Just him on the ground with some blood tells us nothing. Glad I flipped those books fast, I see a big price drop in the near future. ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Yeah I called every shop here in San Diego and they are all sold out. The only shop that still had them, had them for $20. I asked him why since he is one of the owners that waits till a week later to jump the prices on books and he said cuz its a HOT book. So I decided to pass and just wait for the 2nd prints to see how “they killed him.” Since that’s the whole reason why I want one lol

    1. If the story is true and Donatello is not dead, can a comic be returned back to the comic Store if it was labeled as “Death of Donatello” and its not true?
      False advertisement?

  14. Yesterday, speculators need to buy before everyone finds out about death. Today, speculators need to sell before everyone discovers Donatello is still alive. Funny.

    1. 1st appearances last longer than deaths. That’s why 1st appearance issues have staying power and increase in value.

      1. Yup, first appearance will always be first appearance, no matter what happens to the character. Deaths well, most superheroes who do die don’t stay dead long. So yup, the demand for death issues goes down…

  15. Checking eBay seems most of the auctions have sort of halted as well. I’m sure most of the auctions with bids are high because they were placed before the news he’s not dead. Definitely see a price drop and probably a lot of people trying to dump their copies off, flooding the market to sell to squeeze out a little profit before the plummet back to earth prices.
