Comics Picks of the week for 3/25/15

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, all with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot of heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 3/25/15.
Ok let’s jump right into the hands down pick of the week.
Darth Vader #3 – no denying this one is huge. And will be, well, huger… (I know, not a word.) Anyway, pick it up, the regular copies are already approaching $15 on eBay. Sold out in advance, new characters and……
The One with the Walking and the Dead
Walking Dead #139– They don’t even bother previewing the story anymore, people just buy it. And with good reason too. The new story line is going some where. I have been buying multiples of Walking Dead for a while now and have even gone so far to pick up extra copies under issue 110 anytime I see them.
The Small Press Gem
Past Aways– New Dark Horse series from Matt Kindt who has a strong following. He is also no stranger to being picked up for media deals (Mind MGMT). Also pick up the variant if you can find it cheap.
The Outside Chance
We Can Never Go Home– Small Press book getting good press. Epect small print run on it.
The (Non-Star Wars related) Pick of the Week
Jem and the Holograms #1– Laugh all you want. I sold an inflatable pink guitar from NYCC a few years back for $30 because it had Jem’s name on it. There is a huge fan base of women in their 30-40’s who still love the 80’s series, plus the hipster crowd, plus female nerd-girls. IDW, so don’t expect a huge print run. Will sell out and get a reprint. Also, there is the Artgerm Jem and the Holograms #1 Wondercon Variant (The lowest one linked there is $16.99 b-i-n but won’t last) and the Jem and the Holograms #1 Black and White Wondercon Variant (lowest at $29.99, again, won’t last.) Artgerm has a loyal fanbase.

  1. I laughed when my wife pre ordered these issues. She’s laughing now that it’s a pick of the week. I’ll never hear the end of it.

  2. Apparently, Tim Drake will be the new Batman Beyond in Future’s End #47. Also is Darth Vader #3 purely a flip or does it have long term growth potential?

    1. Everything has potential growth… but predicting is near impossible but speculating makes it easier. Vader #3 has quick flip potential since it’s already sold out at distribution level, shops are already selling out online. They had to allocate so more shops got copies, etc. Star Wars fans are likely the cause behind this. I say this because likely there are Star Wars fans who aren’t comic book collectors buying these comics simply because it’s Star Wars.
The long term potential of this book is simply the fact it’s a first appearance of a new character. This is the other reason that more Star Wars fans are probably going out and buying this issue, due to the potential of a character that sticks around a while. 1st Appearances in general hold value simply because of that. If the character stays popular, makes appearances in shows or movies, then it only strengthens the value of the 1st appearance.
