Comics Picks of the week for Delivery 3/8/15

Each week, hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the comics we think have the best shot of heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 4/7/15:
This is a big week!!
The odd Marvel book on the list:
Deadpool #45 (aka Deadpool 250)- Death of Deadpool Man this is a pricey one clocking in at $9.99. There are a few variants for this one. Of course the one I like is the Deadpool #45 ASM #300 Homage. I know it seems played out, but having just recently purchased a #301, these covers look great displayed together. (I have graded a bunch of them)
The returning favorite:
Saga #27– One of the best comics out there.
The one with the Walking and the Dead:
Walking Dead #140– Say what you will, but this is the most successful book out there. Prices on the back issue prices rise tied into the the TV show. Add in it is a sweeping epic story now and you have a hit. Buy all copies of issue 110 and less when you see them. The TV show is at about issue 70 si look for books in that range as well.
The cheesecake one:
Frank Cho’s Jungle Girl Season 3 #1– I have to tell you I love Jungle Girl genre comics, not just Cho’s. Cho is one of the masters of cheesecake art. Can’t pass this one up.
The Cult Favorite:
Reanimator #1– Dr. Herbert West is back! HP Lovecraft’s work has a strong cult following.
The small press gem:
Kaijumax #1 Oni Press– Giant Monster Jail. I love Kaiju movies and comics (Enormous anyone) so this seems like a fin small press read.
The outside chance:
Four Points #1– Apsen Studios new all female team. Looks good and female lead books are hot.
The pick of the week (TIE):
James Patterson’s Max Ride The First Flight #1– New series getting a lot of buzz, especially the Action Figure Variant. The action figure covers are starting to sell for above cover price already, but if you act quick, you can get the Action Figure cover for $3.99 Female lead characters have been hot lately. worth the pick up. Not to mention, I can see this James Patterson work being adapted into a movie.
and
Savior #1– Todd McFarlane and Clayton Crain, sold. No variants on this book, which is interesting.

  1. Hehe.. FYI, I got this notification but seems you set the “display date” likely for later tonight.. At least it doesn’t show the whole thing, gives away your picks of the week just yet 😉

  2. Descender # 2 …..&…….well…..the big …nu52Event …Convergence # 1 …come out.
I’ll definitely be picking up Descender.

  3. I see very little-to-no profit in buying/selling Deadpool # 45 Phantom variant. It’s on Ebay for $44 and no movement upwards.

    1. I’m not even bothering with Deadpool either.. there’s going to be a bazillion of them out there with everyone trying to sell them. I’d only pick up any variants if I get them at cover.

      1. Very true.. I doubt I’ll find any at cover though. The one shop nearby for me that sells variants at cover usually only orders big on #1 which result in a bunch of variants, after that, they slim down their orders and don’t get as many variants. But sometimes, big issues like this get big orders so we’ll see..

      2. Yeah, we don’t get Phantom variants in TX for cover! I live in DFW with access to a ton of shops and none of them participate in Phantom. Now Ghost, I can find. But even then, those aren’t cover!

        1. Austin Books gets some Ghosts, sometimes they’re cover, sometimes they mark up. I do wish there was a Phantom shops in the area though.
