Wednesday, the best day of the week, new comic book day. It is like your birthday in the middle of each week (oddly enough it is my birthday this year). Each week we ask to hear your pick ups. 

What books did you pick up? What books did you drop? What books were gone off the shelf and what books were sitting there in stacks?

  3. Oh yeah, Iceman is gay in this weeks X-Men issue.. I stopped reading it a long time ago though, too soapy for me. It’s all about their damn love interests. Bendis should write day time soap operas, he’s good at it. I don’t expect this one to be flip worthy either..

      1. Yeah…. Catwoman saw some heat on her coming out as Bi, but one shop got more in and they’ve been sitting there since. I’m not bothering with this one.

      1. Well, if they made Ice Man gay about 20 years ago it would be a big deal.. nowadays it’s like.. meh, who isn’t gay! 😉

Im surprised more people arent noticing “Inhumans special 1” that came out today, theyre bringing back a character who hasnt been seen in marvel since 1940, and hes clearly coming back as an inhuman, so this will more than likely be his “first” appearance as ….well… its been 75 years since hes been around, i dont think enough people are really noticing the “signs” that the inhumans are literally going to be the center of the marvel universe, marvel is literally giving new origin stories to old characters to make them inhumans

      1. i barely… if ever read marvel as well, but all the signs are there for future profit, if they manage to make the inhumans movie larger than guardians of the galaxy, their first appearance will have the same price tag as first xmen/first fantastic four

      2. Marvel is losing me as a fan for sure over this tactic / gimmick. The X-men are not inhumans, they are mutants. Stop insulting my intelligence Marvel. Insulting and pissing off fans of x books for 50 years is not a good long term plan.

    1. Yes, same here. One shop had 6 copies, the other had only two left by the time I got there.

    For what its worth I hear Ice Man comes out as gay in the All New Xmen #40. I know, here we go again. It also addresses the fact that there is a current-day Iceman that is not out of the closet and that he’s dated women.

      1. Bendis just trying to make airwaves.. I think he can be a great writer but some of his stuff is just meh.. it’s like he’s trying to hard. The whole turning characters gay or bisexual is just kind of pointless now.. I don’t care who people screw in real life and I don’t care who the fictional superheroes are screwing, be superheroes for crying out loud, I’m not buying comics to read about their sex lives..

  8. happy birthday Anthony! another super light week for me. guardians of the galaxy, hulk, and wolverines. but I know ill be more than making up for it the next two weeks. lots of image titles coming out next week. cant wait. new batman. tmnt 45. gonna be great.

    My pick-ups today:
    -Star Wars #4
    -Avengers World #20
    Also, can’t wait to dig through my LCS’ back issues and dollar bin for some Rai #0 or Eternal Warrior #4. I might get lucky!

      1. So, I didn’t find EW #4 or Rai #0, but I got Bloodshot ## 3–5 and 10–13 for 25¢ each! Also, Turok #1 and Shadowman #0 for 25¢ each. I also so Magnus Robot Fighter #12 (First Appearance of Turok) in the 25¢ bin. I didn’t know it was a significant issue until I got home and did some research. 50¢ total to invest on the off-chance that one of Valiant’s 5 movies is Turok isn’t a bad bet. Headed back today to grab it.
        Lastly, got Star Brand #1. Also 25¢. There probably will never be a major spike in value, but I’ve enjoyed Star Brand in Hickman’s Avengers/New Avengers and 25¢ for a first appearance ain’t bad! Who knows, maybe he’ll become a bigger presence in Secret Wars.

  10. I went to Lineworks NW in Portland, OR this weekend, a free convention geared towards illustrators. I picked up the first two Copra trades signed by Michel Fiffe, Space Riders signed by Alexis Ziritt (I bought his last copy), and the Ghost World trade signed by Daniel Clowes. It was the premiere of Fantagraphics’ collection of Dan Clowes’ Eightball, but I did not want to shell out $120.
    Today, I’m going to pick up Mad Magazine edited by Weird Al, Samurai Jack, and Squirrel Girl. I hope the rumors are not true about Squirrel Girl being cancelled.

  12. Squirrel Girl and the Inhuman Special for me… will also pick up a copy or two of GI Joe and check for some Preacher back issues. Pretty light yet again but we will see how the next few weeks treat me.

  13. Black Hood #3 I loved the first 2 issues of this gritty noir series.
    Postal #3 This has been a solid series and I think it has a lot of promise going forward
    Star Wars #4 Still Star Wars and still solid. I’m still digging this one more than Darth Vader
    Grind house #4 I’ve honestly been a little underwhelmed with this years grindhouse. I probably won’t drop it this year but I may when next years collection starts rolling out (unless it starts to pick up).

    1. That was the one I was targeting myself.. I can imagine a bunch of shops didn’t order enough to get it, both shops I visited didn’t get it. One claimed he didn’t want a bunch of $4 in the 50 cent bin in a few months.. I can’t blame him.

        1. Yeah.. I think they end up being long term gambles most of the time. There will always be Disney collectors out there..

    1. Dunno about the Hulk specifically, but his appearance as gray hulk (2nd time) is supposed to be something important for upcoming events. Maybe Hulk #324 was the number?

  19. Midtown is listing Batman #40 along with TMNT #45 for sale next week.. better lock in your orders now before they quickly sell out unless you’ve secured them elsewhere.

      1. They’ll likely go on sale the same day but I don’t see Midtown list these on their site any longer, if they do have them, probably in store only.

      2. The release for the combo was moved back a week to 5/6. Midtown will more than likely have them online.

      1. Yeah, the Movie variant is the one to get me thinks.. that regular cover, if they go with that cover is just awful.

      1. Yeah, the Kubert was already showing sold out when next weeks got listed, so they likely sold out before online orders were placed. I snagged 4 copies of the movie variant myself.

      2. Do you have the app or go to the website? The Kubert loaded on the app and I snagged one. It looked like they were there for a minute or two before selling out.

        1. I was refreshing every few minutes on the actual website. I scrolled down and it was already sold out.

    2. I didn’t even skim through them.. but I was able to snag 2 copies each of the A and B covers. Couldn’t find the incentive cover, the two shops only had a handful each.

  22. Happy Birthday! Wow, It’s my birthday this year too!
    I haven’t been able to visit my LCS yet. I called around and most of them are sold out of GI JOE 213 except one. They had one issue left and said they will hold it for me since I am a regular. Outside of that Star Wars #4 and Inhumans Special.

  27. I’m not buying into the whole inhumans craze. You ask 1000 people what their favorite super hero team is you probably won’t get one person that says the inhumans. Yea they will make a movie and all the old Fantastic four issues containing the first appearances of Blackbolt, Medusa, and the inhumans are already shooting through the roof on eBay. Really only reason Inhumans is being made into a movie is because Marvel sold the movie rights to Xmen and Fantastic four and can’t use those premier marvel teams in their “Disney” Marvel universe . So instead of getting the Avengers, Fantastic four, Xmen teamup we all want for the infinity gauntlet movie we will get Avengers, inhumans, and guardians. Just not the same.

  28. Happy Birthday Tony!
    Haven’t been doing a lot of buying lately. Had some buys I had to dip out on because of kid issues. Haven’t gotten anything from my pulls for a month or so. Luckily I have a great LCS that understands and holds everything.
    I did get one comic. Only one. One of my lifelong gems. Traded nearly 40 of my comics for it. Black Cat #50 in VF- condition. A steal for only trading. And a true horror comic I’m sure you would super appreciate Tony. I can die happy ?

      1. Nearly $1000 in trade. Lots of spec books and keys to get it. I’m the same, I love the speculation game, but my true passion is pre code horror and Sci fi.
