Comics Picks of the week for delivery 4/29/15

Last week in April, boy has it flown by.
Each week hundreds of new books hit the stands, each with potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are out picks of the week for delivery 4/29/15.

The Pick of the week
Batman #40– News hasn’t broken to the masses yet that Batman dies. Once this gets out, people will be flocking to the comic shops. Bet on it. Also be on the look out for the 1:25 variant and the Combo Pack, which comes out next week. Sold out most places online, but Mycomicshop does have some for $8.
The New Image #1
Pisces #1– Kurtis Wiebe and Johnny Christmas’ new Sci-fi series. Seriously, Wiebe is golden, with Peter Panzerfaust and Rat Queens. Not a big risk to pick up the first issue.
Side note:
(I will be doing a signing with the Wiebe and Christmas this weekend and will have more details once everything is locked down.)
The Historically incorrect One
The Order of the Forge #1– “I cannot tell a lie. I f**king hate zombies.”-G. Washington. Oh Yeah! George Washington, Ben Franklin, Paul Revere, kicking butt and taking names. Looks awesome.
The Small Press Gem
Mayday #1– Black Mask has been putting out quality books, this one has been getting a lot of heat. A washed-up, drug-addicted screenwriter and a transgender bartender stumble onto a Satanic cult’s plan to sacrifice people all across LA, I mean come on.
The Book Shelf Pick of the Week
Enormous TPB.– We have been big fans of this book since it came out. Pick it up this Wednesday and find out why. 176 pages for $9.99!! That is like half a cent a page.
The books you should pick up anyway:
Red One #1– Cheeky fun books so far with awesome art
Wayward #7– Just a great book, seriously give it a try.
Spread #7– Do I really need to tell you how much I love this book?

  1. Cool picks. Kyle Strahm is appearing this weekend at a local shop for Free Comic book day here in KC. Do you want me to try to get a a Spread #7 action figure variant or a trade signed for you?

      1. Not yet, my stack is big… I did a quick skim though, art seems good and I saw some NSFW images of women.. so it’s got to be good right? 😉

    1. I don’t usually go to BN but the few times I did, seems they only focus on the Marvel, DC TPB or Hardcovers forthe most part. They seem to carry the more popular indie titles like Walking Dead but I’d be surprised if they carried Enormous. A search on their site found nothing so it’s probably not a title they’ll carry.

      1. I don’t think Marvel has a newsstand program any more. booksamillion carries comics and they are all direct market copies. It’s cool because my local BAM bags and boards all the comics.

      2. I was surprised that Marvel didn’t sell anything at C2E2… I’m new to conventions but the Image booth was Awesome! They sold pretty much everything in trades. Hopefully I can find Enormous on Amazon or something, LCS doesn’t have it.

        1. One shop got a copy in (Enormous TPB), I snagged it. Not sure if they had any others but only put one out on the shelf.

            1. Cover Gallery in the TPB? I can check, I haven’t skimmed through it yet, it’s in a bag out in car as I just arrived to work.

                1. I’m always late on Wednesdays.. 🙂
Lucky me though has no strict work hours, I can literally work anywhere I have an internet connection for the most part, well, for 80-90% of my work. Plus my boss is cool, he doesn’t care as long as I get my shit done.. most of the time he tells me to stop creating more work or projects for myself. Some days I feel like the boss of him.. I’m older and more experience.. 🙂
