Transference #1 Black Cat Comics Variant Signing Wrap up and giveaway announcement

Thanks to DrunkWooky for hooking this up.

Ok, so I spent about 5 hours hiking in the mountains of Utah early this morning and getting all Smokey the Bear on some campers in a national forest. My wife then filled me up with peanut butter pancakes and maple syrup and I made my way to the Michael Moreci and Phillip Sevy signing at Black Cat Comics’ 11th Anniversary Party. So, let’s move on to that part of the day because I bet you want to read about comics, huh!?

For Black Cat Comics’ 11th anniversary, the proprietor, Greg (I’m not sure he’d be down with that description), commissioned an exclusive Black Cat Comics variant for Transference #1 by Michael Moreci (Writer, Roche Limit (Image), Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (BOOM! Studios), Burning Fields (BOOM! Studios)). The cover, by Phillip Selvy (Artist, Athena IX (Top Cow Productions), First Hero (Action Lab Comics)) is a great silhouette of the leering Black Cat with the cast of Transference depicted inside.

Black Mask Studio’s Transference #1 solicitation:

Colton Moss and his elite team of special agents run counter-terrorism operations utilizing a secret form of time travel technology called “transference,” which enables them to send their consciousnesses back in time – but, when Colton’s past is altered to reshape his life in the present, he discovers this technology isn’t as exclusive as he thought. Now Colton must prevent a large-scale insurgency in the U.S. – and do so in the transference-past, where a terrorist’s consciousness could be in any body, soeverybody is a potential suspect.

Fresh off the white-hot ROCHE LIMIT and a string of highly regarded genre books, Moreci’s sci-action thriller mixes smart storytelling with intriguing twists while Salas’ sharp and stylish renderings portray a range of eras as well as characters that may be lurking below the surface… much farther down than skin deep.

Phillip Sevy was at the signing today doing small sketches of Howard the Duck doing lines of cocaine in a bathroom, among other more family-friendly super-hero depictions. Also, I got a chance to discuss the finer narrative points of Breaking Bad and the original Planet of the Apes series with Michael Moreci. We decided Tim Burton’s film wasn’t that bad.

Michael was super approachable and pretty down to earth. He drew a couple anomalies on my copy of Roche Limit #1 and a bleeding eye on my Burning Fields #1.

Now, what’s so hot about the Black Cat Comics variant?! The print count on this bad boy came in at a tiny 250 copies! In addition, this book isn’t even out yet. Even though Transference was slated for a June 24th release, the book isn’t out yet. Although Transference isn’t out yet, Black Mask specially printed this variant, which pushed back Young Terrorists at the printers and sent it direct to Black Cat comics. This advance release variant is technically the first publication of the book. We all know that Black Mask has been killing it recently selling out We Can Never Go Home, Mayday, and The Disciples. If Transference heats up like those series, this will be one of the rarest variants out there.

Here’s the CHU lowdown: First, CHU is going to be giving away a copy of the Transference #1 Black Cat Comics Exclusive Variant signed by both Michael Moreci and Phillip Sevy. So, be on the lookout for that this month during CHU’s crazy month of weekly giveaways! Second, Greg over at Black Cat Comics will be selling whatever stock of this 250-print variant remains after today’s signing over at blackcat-comics.com. Buy a couple to speculate on possibly the rarest first print of Transference #1. Or, if you’re like me, just grab a copy for yourself so you can have what very few others can have. I think I’m starting to understand Thanos’ infinity gem obsession…”
