By The Numbers: September print runs

Two things make a book go up in value, demand and supply. We will cover the supply part. Here are the top five, bottom five (recorded anything under the lowest number will not show on the list), and books we have talked about.

The two biggest surprises are Broken Moon 1 American Gothic coming in at a low 4,362, such a great book, and Scooby Doo Team Up 12 coming in at 15,436, 2x the books normal print run.

  1. Is there a certain level that Image will drop a title (in terms of print run)? Or is it completely up to the creators to pull the plug when they decide it’s no longer profitable or worth their time?

  2. Some publishers may cancel a title if revenue is less than the cost of printing, promotion, art and story after 3 issues. Series may continue to complete a story for trade paperback. DC limit seems to be 15,000 and Marvel 20,000? In the 1970s, a comic could be cancelled if sales fall below 175,000!

    1. I knew the majors would cancel a title without hesitation. Crazy that 175K would put you near the top of the monthly list these days. I was mostly curious about he creator owned stuff since from what I understand Image doesn’t lose anything on low selling titles.
