Niobe #1 Hoknes Variant

We have talked about how we thought Niobe was going to be big. With less than a week out, the book is already sold out a Diamond. More spec sites are pointing to it since we mentioned it. This is going to be a Wednesday Winner, trust me on that. Pre-order copies are being listed for $10-15, the 1:5 variant is being listed at $10-29, and of course Untamed 1, Niobe’s first appearance, is just going for crazy money. So, what do you think a Niobe limited to 100 copies is going to do.

Niobe #1 Hoknes Comics Variant features a virgin art cover by series artist Ashley A Woods, and is limited to 100 copies. The book is selling fast and will not last long. This is one to jump on, trust me.

    1. Possibly good for a quick flip but imo all these store only exclusives are crap for long term value. I will stick with the orginal

  1. I agree…this will be the one. I was lucky, Stranger editor sent an email about this before it was posted. Also, If you had ordered The Untamed from them, they offered pre-orders of Niobe, including the con variants.

    1. Yup, I got the same email. $20 for this cover is a bit steep, either from Stranger or Hoknes.
But I see that after the first sellout, Mr. Hoknes jacked up the price another $10 for the remaining copies. That’s fucking lame.

  2. I pre-ordered 2 x regular covers from Midtown and hoping to snag the 1:5 variant locally on Wednesday. I think long term, the exclusive prices will get jacked up high (especially with starting prices at $20 or more) and that will cause most people to seek out the regular covers, driving up the demand and price when supplies run dry, so in the long run, it will be the real winner. But I’m just a secret agent chicken who knows how to only kill… šŸ˜‰

  3. You can get both covers of untamed 1 from stranger comics online….they raised the price of the limited cvr from 4.99 to 9.99. Does look like the ones to own if you’re into first app.

  4. Well, the market (Ebay) is about to get flooded with Untamed # 1’s and Niobe # 1’s this week……

    Better sell fast.

    1. Yeah, if it’s really 8k print run, there’s gonna be plenty to go around. If you missed out on a pre-order and don’t find any at the local shop, wait before buying off eBay, the prices will likely die back down to real world prices from the initial hype.

  5. Kyle – we only raised the price when got down to the last 5 copies since we knew it was going to sell out super fast which it did. The comic was listed for 2 weeks and we only raised the price in the very last hour. Hopefully everyone here got one !

    1. Yet, you raised it again to $39.99. Are you holding back copies to sell on Ebay at inflated prices or are you simply price gouging collectors ?

      1. Terry Hoknes is a good guy and had these at 19.99 until there were about 5-10 copies left out of 100. There is absolutely nothing wrong with raising his price for the last few issues prior to a sell out. Especially after selling his cover (the most limited) for the same price Stranger Comics is asking a few of their variants that are in no way as rare.

    2. A book limited to 100 copies should have started at $39.99 or higher. I think at such a low starting price, Hoknes was doing everyone a favor and losing most of his potential profit from the books.

      1. As some one who has done to exclusives I can tell you the price per item can be high. First you have to commission cover art which can run you $300-$1000 dollars ($3-$10 an issue on a 100 print run) then there is a printer plate change fee of about $400 ($4 per issue on a 100 print run) and then there is the regular cost per item of anywhere from $2-$2.50 a copy) throw in shipping of about $40-60 to get the books out to you and you are looking at a pricey cost per item. Not to mention the books, if they are shipped to Canada could be taxed entering the country. There is a lot of things involved in the cost people do not know about.

        1. Yup, why I said Hoknes was likely being too generous starting the price at $19.99. Probably making pennies per issue at that rate.
