Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. We pick the ones we think have the best chances of heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 11/4/15:
The Returning Favorites (BKV edition)
We Stand on Guard #5-The bloodiest battle yet.
Also,
Paper Girls #2– The first issue completely hooked me. I cannot wait to see where this is going.
The New Vertigo #1
Unfollow #1There was a time the Vertigo was on the top of the heap when it came to creator owned comics. It dropped off and Image seemed to take up the reigns, but now, with books like this, Vertigo is on fire again.
The New Image #1’s
Citizen Jack #1 Billed as the horror comedy for everyone who hates politics. I love Sam Humphries work, especially his self-published work, so will be great to see him doing creator owned stuff again. Plus, this looks funny and a little demented.
Monstress #1– MARJORIE LIU returns to comics with artist SANA TAKEDA (X-23) for an all-new ONGOING SERIES! Steampunk meets Kaiju in this original fantasy epic for mature readers. Beautiful art. I do like Marjorie Liu’s work. Kaiju, check. Triple Sized #1, check. Mature readers, check. This one looks really good.
Grant Morrison
Klaus #1– Grant Morrison doing his “Ultimate Santa Klaus” story. Drawing on Santa Claus’ wilder roots in Viking lore and Siberian shamanism-taking, in the creepier side of Christmas, and adding in characters like the sinister Krampus (I love Krampus lore) and I am sold.
The One with the Media Tie-in
Pacific Rim Tales from the Rift #1 I may be alone in loving Pacific Rim. The combination of Giant Monsters and Giant Robots just drew me in. This comic ties in to the movie (and upcoming sequel). From Legendary Comics, so there will not be a huge print run.
The Hands Down Winner of the Week
Niobe #1– This is our pick of the week, small press pick of the week, and our best bet for a flip. Mel picked this one early on in Big Gems from Small Press. We have been talking about it since Baltimore Comic Con, we had hands on copies of this since Baltimore as well. It is a good book and deserving of the attention.
Also coming out this week:
Deadpool #1– Always pick up Deadpool #1’s if nothing else because they might be sought after later.
Black Science returns. Loving this series.
That is it for us this week. Let us know what you are spec-ing on.
Yes, Black Science is great.
Paper Girls #2 is a definite. I have so many #1s currently.. I’m gambling a little but history has proven that BKV ongoing series are a sure bet, despite possible print run numbers. He has the fans, he attracts new fans all the time, they seek out #1 issues. I even bought Ex Machina #1 for around $8 in probably 9.8 condition, you can’t find them in 9.8 at that price anymore. Saga had a decent size print run for it’s #1, it’s an easy $80 book in NM raw condition. I’m betting Paper Girls ends up the same. So yeah, I’ll spend $50 on a bunch of #1. All it has to do is peak once at $50 and I made all my money back.
We Stand On Guard I hope ends up continuing as well, seems like the type that could do the second and third arc story runs, maybe even run the numbering like the Strain did by splitting them up.
Do we know what the print run on Klaus #1 is yet?
Won’t know until December

I’m curious to know how many of the 1:100 are out there.
Come on Tony.. use your CHU powers and find out for us..
Okay, so going back to January 2015, Munchkin #1 was their highest print run issue coming in around 16k copies. The next one was Strange Fruit #1 at 14k.
Besides those two, the next highest was around 11k and then most other titles or issues reached 10k print run size or smaller.
So it’s a safe bet that Klaus is going to be a 15k or lower total print run.
Their highest for one issue was a Loot Crate issue but we won’t count that one, but it was 500k since Loot Crate is the most popular subscription nerd box still.
Searching just Boom! titles that is.
So by that logic, if they only printed 15K, there are only 150 of the 1:100 in existence?
If they actually kept it at 1:100, that would be right.
