Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 1/6/16

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. we pick the ones we feel have the best shot at heating up. Here are our Picks of the Week for delivery 1/6/16:
The “Buy it for a Buck”
True Believers: Deadpool #1– Seriously, it is a buck, what do you have to lose? It features a reprint of New Mutants #98, hasn’t happened a lot (I can think of two comics that reprinted it). This is the only one I know of that will have the same cover though.
Also, Deadpool related is the Color Your Own Deadpool book out this week. I can see a lot of these being colored *gasp*.
The “One More Deadpool” Pick
Spider-man Deadpool #1– Sorry for all the Deapoolishness going on this week but the movie is a little over a month away. Previous crossovers in Amazing Spiderman do well on the secondary market. Also has the return of Joe Kelly to Deadpool.
My Variant Pick of the Week
A-Force #1 Cosplay Variant– With apologies to Mel, not trying to move in on your thing. This cover features Jay Justice as She-Hulk. Jay is a local to my area and was actually photoed as part of last years Baltimore Comic Con Cosplay Round-Up by yours truly and posted on the site.
Returning Favorites
Kodoja #2– New Giant Monster book from the kings of all creatures enormous at 215ink.
Unfollow #3– Killer Vertigo book that has already been optioned. It is a must pick up.
Paper Girls #4– BKV. Just read it.
Nailbiter #19– This Joshua Willamson book has been insanely good. Come in producers, pick this up already. Town that spawns Serial Killers. No crazy special effects. Could be adapted easily.
Small Press Gems
Lone Wolf 2100 #1– Ok so Dark Horse is not extremely small press but still not big three. Lone Wolf and Cub has been one of my favorite series and movie series and the first round of 2100 was fantastic.
Last Contract #1– It’s Boom and everything Boom gets optioned. Also, Ed Brisson who did Sheltered is penning this book. A retired hitman is being targeted. Sounds fun to boot.
The Pick of the Week
Swamp Thing #1– I know Swampie has been done by a lot of great writers. BKV for example. But this is the original co-creator Len Wein back on his character. With art by Kelly Jones who did some of the most atmospheric Batman books ever, this one is a must pick up.
That is it for me, let us know what you are spec-ing on

  1. I nabbed a ASM 611 last week for $2.00. Pretty pumped to have grabbed that “team up” so cheap.

  2. I’m excited for Swamp Thing. As for Nailbiter, I completely agree. From the second page of the first issue I’ve been hooked. Went to second print. First print was sold out quickly and the cover is amazing not to mention the spectacular read. I have HIGH HIGH hopes for it. Then again, as a horror fan, I may be biased.

      1. My shop forgot to put it in my box! I got home and realized it was missing. Thankfully they still had a copy so it’s waiting for me but I may not get up there until next Wednesday. They were also shorted on Paper Girls…..grrrrr

    1. Ah, I wasn’t going to pick it up originally but skimmed through it at shop and was able to snag the virgin variant at cover price. 🙂

  3. You are so right about Nailbiter. That is one of those titles I will be with to the end. I have 2 complete sets, one for the PC and one more with a ton of extra copies for what I hope will have a Walking Dead type of tv series.
