A few months back, Comic Con Box launched and released Batman Adventures #12 Comic Con Box Variant. We also mentioned the Black and White Variant
. Turns out there is a super rare third variant, the rarest Batman Adventures 12 (reprint) variant.
Do to some great digging by our friend Chad K. we learned the print run for the third variant.
The variant was done by Rick Burchett, the original cover artist for the book. The Color Variant sells for about $30-35. The Black and White Variant
sells for $65-80. This was only available if you ordered a 1 year subscription.
But then there is the mystery Virgin Variant. A couple of these have been popping up on eBay and have been selling for about $100-$125. These might start selling for more with the news on the actual print run. Thanks to Chad, we have found that this was a test copy that were originally printed before the Comic Con Box variants were. Most of them went to Wizard Staffers. However, Rick Burchett had copies and were giving them away at Wizard World Ohio. The print run on the Virgin Variant
according to Comic Con Box is 10-20 copies. Yes, that low. One of the hottest books in the past few years gets a reprint, and that reprint has a super rare variant.
There are three raw copies of the Virgin Variant up for sale between $80-125. There is also a CGC 9.8 Signed
copy up for grabs for $349.00.

Thanks Bill. Not surprised so many of them ended up graded. Besides the four that were online tonight, not sure we will see a bunch more come to market. Just may make them rarer.
14 are SS, as low as 8.0. I bet one person sent them all in. And, that should be about all we see if the info above is accurate!
It did come from Comic Con Box’s Facebook. They were all from different sellers in different locations.

Now three have sold and the 4th is up to $110.
It’s still a reprint of a 20 year old book, don’t lose perspective people.
I agree, but it is a reprint of one of the most popular 20 year old books. There is a TPB that has a reprint of it in it that sells for crazy money too.
The TPB is still undervalued and I believe there is a 2nd printing.
I see this book as one more that will always be more valuable to a lot of other people than it ever will be to me, you know what I mean?

I truly and I mean…truly hope everyone here realizes there are not 20 copies known to exist.
They (as in Wizard) are selling them in their eBay store and have been for awhile.
While it is rare, don’t believe for a second only a very limited amount were made as a color or test run.
Just do simple math…
How many graded on census?
How many available or already sold?
That’s only a portion of collectors/buyers.
Kudos to the writer of the article for asking questions and providing info but…just because someone answered it doesn’t mean that # is true.
And I own zero stock in this issue of any sort as an aside.

Hi JJ looks like 9 total have sold. None of them mine. I have not owned or have any stock in the virgin variant. I believe that they are truly low printed and there will be no other way to know other than what we have been told. They said 10-20. Again, I have no dog in the fight but have to go by what has been given to us by comic con box.

The latest copy seems to be posted by a Wizard World related individual as almost everything they have for sale is from different Wizard Worlds or Comic Con Boxes (also Wizard owned)
Also, appears that same individual sold most of the ones that have been sold.
If it is a Wizard Staffer that would make sense.
Ok. There have been four sellers who have been selling copies. Two of the sellers have sold multiples with one seller with the Wizard Logo having sold the most.
20 or 200, it is a beautiful book. Based on everything said, my guess will be 50. This book is as hot as it will ever be, so if there was 200, they would be all over Ebay right now. Regardless, fun to watch!

Received an email from Wizard directly. They have contacted me (without prompting from me) in reference to the book. They will not release the exact print run of the book but did say it is “extremely limited”. I responded with some questions and I hope they get back to me with some answers. I will update every one once I have more info.

Found out throw a quick google search that Kickthecancorp is Kick the Can Corp, the parent company of Wizard. The ebay seller who has sold the most copies on ebay is Wizard, aka Kick the Can Corp. Also the parent company of Comic Con Box.

Agreed. I cannot get a concrete number on the print run. But from what I have seen and been told it is still small and rare.

Yes, it was. But I just don’t like to buy raw in a book like this. I wouldn’t want one with a spine tick or dent in it. This sort of book is only collectible to me if it is near perfect!
Just think. If wizard marks them up to $200 each how great of a deal they will be currently at $150 each.

I hear ya’ about buying graded.
I purchased one from kickthecancorp yesterday and after I asked for the print run, he gave me the same vague extremely limited response. I inquired further asking if he’d say less than 500, he responded with
“Yes we would certainly feel safe in confirming that less than 500 were printed, but again we cannot disclose exact amount. Thank you and please let us know if you have any additional questions.”
I’d say a safe bet would be 250. But I’m totally speculating at this point.
Thanks for the update. I did receive an email back from Wizard that confirmed the seller is Wizard directly. They said they would not confirm the print run, again. They said at some point a limited amount were made available for subscribers as a subscription bonus but did not tell me when or how.

Just to update I got my copy in and it is gorgeous. Still no clue in the actual print number. Kickthecancorp didn’t print my label right so it spent an extra day on the fedex truck, however they said they’d send me a surprise book for the inconvenience. Fingers crossed for the black and white variant!
