Blind Adam's Top 20 Hidden Gems

Blind Adam is a comic dealer in the New York and New Jersey Area, yes he is blind. He has been contributing a fun list each week.
Hello folks. It’s your boy, Blind Adam. Thank you all for reading and supporting my dreams and for all of your friendship and advice. Comicsheatingup.net is awesome. Now let’s make the money on some comics.

1. Amazing Heroes Swimsuit Special #3 and Marvel Age #121– Amazing Heroes has 1st Ren and Stimpy in comics. Marvel Age #121 1st Marvel Ren and Stimpy appearance and has Ren and Stimpy on cover and inside.
2. Newstime The Life and Death of Superman. I was sorting through a collection and found this magazine. It is a Doomsday appearance and is cheap at $3-5.
3. Darker Image #1– 1st Image Maxx. I just watched The Maxx on you tube. Wow the later issues #33-35 go for mad dollars but why is his first Image appearance so cheap? Also, why did the cartoon only last one season? (Comico Primer 5 has the first published appearance of the Maxx, then called Max the Hare.)
4 & 5. is a two way tie. Ren and Stimpy #41 and Beavis and Butthead #28– final
issues typically had very low print runs $10-30 I will pay $5-15 all day every day on
these myself as I love final issues like this
6. Superman Unchained #1– what if in Superman vs Batman Lex Luthor is
creating Wrath as well as Doomsday? Well this over printed book is
Wrath’s first appearance go for the road show 3-d variant as it is
$100
7. All Star Batman and Robin #10recalled- Frank Miller and Jim Lee
awesomesauce. Batgirl swearing like a lady of the evening. This run
is fun yes I said it I am a fan of Frank Miller . $25-100
8. Batman #183– Second Poison Ivy. Poison Ivy is getting her own book.
she is a cosplay all star. Everyone is after #181 but this classic
cover Batman watching Batman on television, plus the second appearance
of the second hottest bat-chick, is just money in the bank $20-150
depending on grade
9. Marvel Tales #190– Reprints Amazing Spider-man #50 1st Kingpin.
Netflix Daredevil show is coming back on March 25th. The Kingpin makes
that show. Can’t afford an original then get this reprint $3-5 which
should be a $10 in the future as reprints are on the rise
10. Supergirl #53– Bizzarogirl 1st appearance. Lauren Hope was cast
as Bizaro Supergirl and Supergirl on cbs is awesomesauce $5 for now
also much cheaper than Bizarro Supergirl’s 1st appearance in
Superman #140
11. Superboy #68 (silver age) 1st Bizzaro. This one ain’t cheap! Hey Midtown
comics thanks a lot for telling us about actors coming in to the shop to autograph
books. But Jesse Eisenberg was at Midtown Comics in Time Square and
mentioned that Bizzaro is in the movie and Bleeding Cool ran with it.
12. Man of Steel #5– 1st Post-Crisis Bizzaro 1st modern lucy lane wow
this book and series has a lot going for it
13. Superman #161– 1st new Bizzaro done by Jeph Loeb. This is part of
Emperor Joker story line and features a Harley Quinn appearance as well, $10
14. Back to the Future #1-5. Harvey comics 1991. Back to the Future is
hot these days. IDW series, Pepsi Perfect, which is a fancy vanilla
Pepsi. And don’t forget that sweet new box set on bluray. Well this is the first
Marty Mcfly and Doc. Brown in comics $50 a set. #1 is $10-15 heres a
flip idea for any going to Wizard World Philly. Mike J. Fox will be
attending. Get him to sign one of these then submit it for grading and
make the money.
15. Avengers #52– The Black Panther joins the Avengers. Black Panther plus Avengers equals money with the upcoming Civil War movie.
16, 17, 18. Nam #61, 62, 63– The Punisher in Vietnam, pre-dates the born mini-series. Adds to Frank Castle’s origin. $2-6 can be found in dollar boxes and the Punisher will be on Netflix soon via Daredevil and possibly his own show.
19, 20, 21. Green Arrow Longbow Hunters. At $5 each these are cheap. My question if Batman the Dark Knight returns and Watchmen are the two books that brought in the modern “grim and gritty” age why isn’t Longbow Hunters number three on that list? This is just as violent and has just as much sex and drugs as those other classic books, but where is the love for Oliver Queen ?
Blind Adam out…

  1. Great list — I always wondered about Longbow Hunters as well. Those books ushered in a very successful GA solo run as well.

      1. Yeah, randomly finding those books in a bargain bins in the mid-1990s is what brought me back to comics after a long hiatus. (and I always loved the pastel/painted covers too)
