Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 2/17/16

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 2/17/16:
The Nostalgic One
Bill and Ted Go to Hell #1– I have been a big fan of the Bill and Ted franchise since the movies came out, and since the Evan Dorkin Marvel Series. Goof ball humor. Should be fun. Sure, there have been other recent B&T stories, but how many times have they been to hell?
The New Image #1
Snowfall #1– Joe Harris is a great writer, loved Great Pacific. This is an extra sized issue for the regular cover price. A catastrophic crash has left the climate ravaged, society splintered, and the newly-christened ‘Cooperative States of America’ propped up and administered by the powerful Hazeltyne Corporation. Only one man wages an all-out weather war against the system, wielding the forces of nature themselves as weapons. He is the White Wizard. The ghost in the night. Genius. Terrorist. Outlaw. Hero?
The New Small Press #1
Wraithborn #1– Joe Benitez returning to another cult favorite book of his. I used to love the original series and wish it had continued, now it finally is.
Returning Favorites
Birthright #14– Joshua Williamson doing sword and sorcery right.
Citizen Jack #4– Again, loving this odd ball book. Awesome! Devil and politics go hand and hand. Written by Sam Humphries who has done some of the best, quirky, self published books.
Devolution #2 – First issue hooked me with this post apocalyptic tale. It is Rick Remender though.
Sex Criminals #14 – Finally returning after the long break. Looking forward to the pervy fun.
Enormous V.2 #5– One of the best books on the market. SUper low print runs on these books month after month. When news of the TV show hits *BOOM*
The Ladies of DC Picks
Harley Quinn #25 Neal Adams Variant– The Neal Adams variants have been flying off the shelves. So couple it with a hot character, yeah, could be good.
Poison Ivy Circle of Life and Death #2– First issue was incredible with gorgeous art. Cover alone for the second issue sells it.
The Small Press Pick of the Week
The Gun #2– This anthology series from Creature Entertainment has been really good. Looking forward to it continuing. (Who am I kidding I already have the self-published second issue that they sold at NYCC this past year.)
The Pick of the Week
Dusu Path of the Ancient #1– Stranger Comic’s second release. Let’s see if they can catch lightening in a bottle again with their new book. HoknesUSA has a cool variant for the book too.
Also, don’t forget HoknesUSA and Comicsheatingup.net have partnered on a killer Niobe She is Life #2 Exclusive while you are looking.
That’s it for us this week, let us know what you are spec-ing on

  1. 1. Carnage #5- This series has been outstanding. It stands pretty far above most Marvel series in terms of plotting. With Gerry Conway on writing duties, that’s not surprising. This series 1) made me go back and read Gerry’s triumphant return in Spider-Man Spiral, which was surprisingly good; and 2) has made me begin searching out earlier Carnage books. I hope this series keeps it up.
    2. Mighty Thor #4- I already sold my Hughes variant. That thing is HOT! $40-50. I’ll grab the reg cover to read. I like wanted sign gags anyway.
    3. Star Wars #16- I need to go back and see if Aphra actually appeared in any issue of “Star Wars” during “Vader Down.” If not, this would be her first cross into another series outside Darth Vader. It seems unlikely, though. At any rate, I’ll be grabbing every variant I can find tomorrow. The Yu variant, in particular is beautiful on this one.
    4. Uncanny Inhumans #5- Soule has done good work with this book. ANAD Inhumans is falling off my pull as far less enthralling than this book.
    5. Wrath of the Eternal Warrior #4- I always welcome more Valiant in my pull! Hopefully Gilad gets out of “Hell” and back on the plane of the living in this issue.
The stuff Poyo and Tony have me speccing on:
-Harley Quinn Neal Adams Variant- Detective Comics was a good sale for me. Hopefully Harley outperforms that.
-Wonder Woman Neal Adams Variant- same story.

    1. Aphra was in Star Wars #13, so this might be her first appearance outside of Darth Vader. I didn’t see her in issue #12, trying to skim through the others before that if there’s any other glimpse but I don’t recall seeing her in any of them prior to this one.

      1. It really feels like Lucasfilm and the Marvel creative teams are playing the long game with this character. She references her own death multiple times while in the service of Darth Vader and now she’s a valuable Rebel prisoner.
I hope she ends up in a movie, because she is one awesome character. A trio of BeeTee, Triple Zero, and Aphra in a Star Wars film would make my decades of fandom all worth it.

    2. I picked up Carnage 3, 4 and 5. I had picked up 1 and 2, haven’t read yet but was gonna wait and read on my Marvel Unlimited app but you perked my interest so didn’t want to wait to read and check out.
