Batman #50 Spoiler

Thanks to Trey over at CBSI for breaking this one.
Looks like Batman #50 will have three things of interest in it. Spoilers below, so do not read if you do not want to know, but there is a good piece of spec in it.
spoiler
First up is the return of Bruce Wayne as Bats. Second, new Bat Suit. And third, a new Robin. The Robin is the part that is most interesting.

Bruce Wayne will be offering Duke Thomas the role of Robin. Duke first appears in Batman #21 (2011). There was the regular, the Combo Pack, a 1:25 variant, a 1:100 variant, a SDCC Variant, and a 2nd printing.
(Mycomicshop has a few NM (9.4) copies of Batman #21 for $6.)
People are mentioning the Batman 43 Selfie variant as his first appearance as Robin, but looks like he is dressed as Batman to me:

Might want to look at We Are Robin #1 1:25 variant as his first appearance as Robin:

Familiar color scheme, R logo belt….
Batman #50 looks like it is going to be an epic end to Scott Snyder’s run.

  1. That’s great news as I have couple of these issues. I hate that Snyder is leaving and the fact that DC is relaunching the books again once they reach issue 52. They should of just kept Snyder till the end if they where planning on doing this re-boot. Just my opinion.

  2. Alright.. a new Robin to kill eventually.. this gets me so excited! Nothing better than killing off a Robin in a Batman comic! 😉

  3. So I guess what makes this issue bigger is that it will be a first African American Robin. Will defenetly be picking up that selfie though

  4. Duke’s first app as Robin is in Batman Future’s End, which is before both aforementioned series. In it, he is a grown man, as Robin. It is, in my opinion, the key besides #21.

      1. Your welcome! I know many will say that it doesn’t count because it’s technically another timeline (Future’s End) But that logic doesn’t work for the success of Spider-Gwen, Plus I think since there is no current appearance of him as Robin in current continuity, everyone will be scrambling for what they can afford and Future’s End is perfect in line for making some $$$ on. Whereas, the combo, SDCC, and 2nd prints, not to mention the 1:100 will be costly.

  5. Also, FYI, Batman and Robin Future’s End #1 had a print run of ~75,000. Batman #21 had a print run of ~150,000. You can get Future’s End for less than cover in some places. Solid, low risk, investment book.

  6. I wouldn’t think his 1st appearance AS Robin wouldn’t be before he was ASKED to be Robin. Otherwise he is just wearing the suit. Right?

  7. Another book to not sleep on is Batman #28 – 1st Blue Bird. Not worth much now, but someday, could be huge.
