Zenescope's Van Helsing Coming to TV This Fall

Here is one I am not sure anyone has noticed. A TV show is in production currrently based on the Zenescope series Van Helsing.
This is not optioned, it is on the schedule to appear on TV.
From Philly.com

AS TATTLE has been following the comics of Horsham-based Zenescope Entertainment since we met founders Ralph Tedesco and Joe Brusha at a comic-book convention years ago, we were excited to learn last fall that the company’s Van Helsing character was getting her own TV show, which was confirmed through imdb.com.
Local comic producer Zenescope has Van Helsing character in successful hunt for TV series
More impressive, filmmaker/playwright Neil LaBute (The Company of Men, Nurse Betty) is the show’s writer/showrunner and Kelly Overton (Legends, True Blood) is set to star. The hourlong show will debut in the fall on Syfy.
Reached for comment, all Tedesco would say was, “Van Helsing is one of our more popular comic-book characters. That’s because she’s a tough-as-nails vampire hunter who happens to be the daughter of Abraham Van Helsing. And while I can’t yet confirm the degree of our involvement in the TV series, we’re extremely excited for what should shape up to be a fantastic show.”

The original comic is about Liesel Van Helsing, according to Comicvine.com, first appearing in Grimm Fairy Tales Unleashed #0. (These can be four for $1-$2, the limited variants much higher.)Print run on the book (estimated) is 7,103. High for a Zenescope book, but it was a $1.99 issue.   Liesel Van Helsing has appeared in about 63 comics including the 2014 series Grimm Fairy Tales Presents Helsing and last years Van Helsing vs. Dracula. The TV show’s main character is named Vanessa Helsing. IMDB has the show starting in the fall.

  1. Nice find! Think they gave me one for free at a con, need to dig through the archives now. You never know!

    1. Oh well late to the gravy train kind of….. I do have the 3 copies of the con variant. I enjoyed the cover so I picked up a few awhile back ;p

    1. I don’t think there has been a Vanessa Helsing. They based the character off the book and took certain liberties with it. I did check Comicvine and the Zenescope wiki and found nothing.

      1. “Vanessa Helsing” has a humorous spin to it. It was probably an afterthought, and they couldn’t easily change it in the books, but it fit well for a TV show pitch. I’ve actually grown very fond of “Liv Moore” on the “iZombie” series; it is a really fitting name; even though the comic book character was “Gwen Dylan”. They recently had Liv go undercover in an episode, and she used “Gwen Dylan” has her alias, which was a nice nod to the original.
I’ve been waiting for Zenescope to finally get their Wonderland properties on-screen. They’d been talking about it for Years. And when ABC released their Once Upon A Time In Wonderland spin-off, one of Zenescope’s writers commented on my post about it (fearing the ABC series would derail chances of a competing Wonderland show), making it sound like their series was Coming Soon… but it still hasn’t materialized. The Wonderland books are my primary Zenescope pulls. With the ongoing, I feel like they’ve gradually changed direction, but gearing up for the 50th issue, I’m hoping things get crazier again.
I’m about 10 issues behind in my reading, but things have gotten too tame with Calie ruling Wonderland, and the antagonists forging predictable plots. The book needs more wild & crazy! Plus, The Horror! Part of what drew me to their Wonderland in the first place was all of the twisted & creepy versions of Wonderland characters. Though they’ve changed her by now, I always thought it was a cool idea to have two of the Queens of Wonderland bound together like a Playing Card; with two upper bodies connected at the waist, so when one was head-up, the other was upside-down under her dress, and her legs were actually the other Queen’s hands standing her up.
