Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 5/4/16

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week fro delivery 5/4/16.
Let’s get right to it. It is a big week.
Returning Favorites
Black Hood #10– Gritty, Philly street level crime comic always packs a punch.
Devolution #4– Fantastic post apocalyptic story by Rick Remender.
Moon Knight #2– Amazing first issue. Cannot wait to see where this is going.
Violent #4– Another gritty story, perpetual loser fights to keep his family.
Small Press Gems
Smosh #1– Youtube comedy sensation brings their twisted brand of humor to comic books. The solicitations seem hilarious. This is selling out everywhere.
Cinema Purgatorio #1– Alan Moore’s new anthology. Features some great writers. The kickstarter went crazy on the secondary market.
Klaus #5– Movie possibly announced. Early issues of this series are key.
The random Marvel’s on the list
Punisher #1– Becky Cloonan writes a completely bold direction for Punisher. Moon Knight sold out and went back for a second print, expect the same here.
Thunderbolts #1– New team featuring Winter Soldier. Kind of looking forward to this. Plus, Jim Zub writing.
Gwenpool #0– reprints the short stories in other books. Worth the pickup as all things Gwen are hot.
The One With The Walking and the Dead
Walking Dead #154– Beta. Negan. Something has been brewing for a while. The stories have been kind of slow so you know something is coming. Hoping that Beta sticks around. If you do not know what we are talking about, check it out here.
The New Image Number One
Renato Jones One Percent #1– Kaare Andrews is awesome, this anti-elitist comic is just right for election season. This book has been much talked about and hyped.
The Picks of the Week
Michael Turner Artist Editions- There will never be another artist like Michael Turner. His passing was sad and left a legacy for generations to come. He has two books coming out this week featuring just his penciled line work. Believe me, people will want these books. Aspen does small print runs and this one will be no different. Fans will seek these out. Check out Michael Turner Art Edition Soulfire #1 and Soul Fire #1. There are also some sweet variants for the books.
For the cover alone
Spider-Gwen #8– features a fantastic homage to the classic Spider-man No More image.img_3902

  1. The only thing I think is hurting Alan Moore’s books recently is that they are under Avatar with it having tons of covers and tons of reprints. I’ve not encountered many Avatar books that hold their weight, these for the long haul but for now, you’ll find them in the 50 cent bin in a few months (like Providence I’m finding now in the 50 cent bins).

      1. I’m passing for now…. I picked up Providence and now they’re in the dollar bins at one shop. So I’m hoping these end up there as well.

  2. You guys need to jump on Batman Superman #32 asap. First appearance of the new Chinese Superman. It’s already sold out at Midtown, Tfaw and most importantly Diamond.
