Here’s a useful money-saving tip:
Save a sh*tload in shipping on Midtown orders by signing up for a pull-list. You can continually add books to a running order whenever you want and only pay shipping as frequently as you want them to send you your books (i.e. weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly).
This way, you don’t have to pay shipping each and every time you see a book you want. At checkout, you just add the contents of your cart to an ongoing order.
The catch is that you’re required to subscribe to at least 10 titles per month, which for many of us would be no problem. But if you only get a few books a month or you’d just rather get your monthly titles from your lcs, a trick you can do is to subscribe to 10 copies of a title that is discontinued. This method allows you to add books to your order whenever you want and save on shipping without having to buy any monthlies from Midtown at all.
A little dishonest? Sure. Super convenient and saves you tons on shipping? Yes.
Lately I’ve been doing pre-ordering and mostly getting the 35% off most books. Most of the time I get free shipping as well (local shop I get 20% off). Doing all this without dealing with setting up a pull list.
