One to Watch: Action Comics #52 and Superman #52

For Action Comics #52, TFAW is sold out,  Mycomicshop has not listed theirs yet, and  Midtown has these limited to one per customer currently. Superman #52  is still available for pre-order. Regardless, Action Comics #52 and Superman #52 should be on your watch list. Do not get left behind on these.
The following contains spec and possible spoilers, proceed only if you want to know.

Currently in Superman and Lois resides the Pre-New 52 Superman. He is married to Lois and they have a son. Oddly, with Rebirth, there will be a New Super-kid comic. His first appearance in what seems to be his Rebirth state is in the First issue of the series. (The variant is brutal to find, selling for $50 or more currently) but worth picking up. His first appearance as a baby is in (also a good cheap spec.)
But back on point. The solicitation for Action Comics #52 is called “The Final Days of Superman”. The solicitation reads:

Super League’ continues-as two Supermen meet at last: pre-New 52 Superman meets the current Clark. A force seeking to end both Men of Steel brings them together, but divided they may fall as one Superman must choose the safety of his family before himself

The solicitation for Superman #52 reads:

The ‘Super League’ epic concludes in one explosive fight as the new master villain uses Superman’s own solar super flare power against everyone.
Can even two Supermen, Supergirl, Wonder Woman and Batman be enough to stop this onslaught? And how will the outcome of this battle change Lois Lane’s life forever?

Clearly a Superman is going to die, and most likely the New 52 Superman as Super-Kid and most likely his father, the Pre-52 Superman will survive and be brought back into the legacy numbered Action Comics. Copies of the regular cover are already selling well for slightly above cover (here too). The B variant is also doing well at slightly above cover price in pre-orders, even though these are pre-selling below cover price. The Death will most likely happen in Superman #52. pre-sale copies of  Superman #52 haven’t made it to eBay yet.
Needless to say, come 5/11 (Action) and 5/25 (Superman), don’t be left in the dark or the cold.

  1. Meh.. another death to just bring him back. Now the first appearance of someone could hold value.. but deaths never hold value. I’m not even going to care about this one.

      1. “The New 52 Superman will be dead and the old superman takes over.” Wait, what? There’s more than one Superman?! I mean, I read Romita’s run on Superman, but I never thought there was more than one???

        1. Two different books. There is the New 52 Superman over in the regular Superman titles. There is also Superman and Lois which is a separate series which follows the Pre-52 Superman. Kill the New 52 and bring back Superman Classic.

  2. @agentpoyo 100% correct. This is just an excuse to retire some old new 52 crud and hype up the return of the pre-52. Look how it got us stopped talking about the nonsense, and now scrambling about all these events. I dont even feel that new Superman/Batman new supe is a strong spec. 10,000 speculators spec’ing and everyone is wondering why a 30K book is gone. No one else cares IMO

  3. Wait im confused about his sons first appearance. Convergence is his first appearance, so why does the article say that issue 1 variant of lois and clark is hard to find, So the kid has 2 first appearances?

    1. His first appearance as a baby is in Convergence Superman. He is fully grown as he will appear in the Super-Kid book in Superman and Lois #1. The variant is extremely hard to find as it has been speced on and jumped in price. I know copies are out there but cheap copies have left the barn.

      1. Okay cool, so i guess my question is how the baby issue isint a hot book since its his first app wouldnt that be worth more? I guess im not sure why the lois ans clark number 1 is worth more when its not his first app. so babies dont count? Haha

        1. Neither of the regulars are really hot at the moment. The Variant for the one is because of the low print run. I think if the Super-Kid book takes off (need to get its real title) then these could take off.

  4. His1st app in Convergence #2 but people are really building the hype for Superman and Lois #1 variant, lots of money to be made.

      1. Do you think the regular cover lois and clark issue 1 is worth getting? Or better to hunt the convergence issue 2 where its the first app?
Also you think going forward any variant for lois and clark will be worth it? Or just the issue 1?

        1. Just issue 1 so far. I picked up both Convergence 2 and Superman and Lois 1 for cheap. They are still cover price so doesn’t hurt to grab one.

      2. Side topic, how u feel about Aquaman 50 since it got the first app of aquawoman, good pick up?

  5. regular cover Lois and Clark 1 actually has the kid on the cover…normally that would make it hotter regardless of any variant that was released that didn’t have him on the cover.

  6. What I heard through the grape vine was that everyone is assuming that one Superman will be dead on these 2 issues, but that’s not the case. That Clark Kent gives up he’s power and continues to exist as himself during this whole rebirth.
Either way I’ll be picking a few copies from my LCS.

  7. So what’s the consensus on batman rebirth #1? Think it’s a safe spec? If its anything like n52 batman 1 worth picking up s few right?

  8. I’m thinking that the majority of the final issues before Rebirth might be spec’ worthy.
