Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 6/22/16

Each week hundreds of new books hit the shelves, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery on 6/22/16:

Big week this week. Rebirth is rocking.

Returning Favorites
Divinity II #3 – The last series was awesome. But the new series is outpacing the last series. It is so good.

4 Kids Walk Into A Bank #1 2nd Print – Hit new series from Black Mask goes back for a second printing. Cover art looks cool and it is a new cover.

Image+ #3 – Continues the Negan origin. Plus is the first appearance of a ton of new Image books. Also, only $1.99, can’t go wrong.

New #1’s
She-Wolf #1 – Interesting concept of a girl who thinks she was bit by a werewolf and starts having fever dreams, but is that the case.

La Muerta Descent #1 – Hot new book from Chaos Comics Coffin Comics

The Force is Strong With
This One

Star Wars The Force Awakens #1 – The first comic appearance of many of the characters from the hit movie. Could be a bust, but could be a slow burn. Still, too good to pass up.

The One For the Cover
Wonder Woman #1 Frank Cho cover – Not sure this is a variant any more than the Artgerm split cover was a variant, and not trying to step on Mel’s toes, but this Wonder Woman cover is too good to pass up. And with Cho at Baltimore Comic Con each year, this is one to get signed and graded.

Small Press Pick of the Week
Lucas Stand #1 – From the creator of Sons of Anarchy, he knows a thing or two about tv shows and media deals, and from Boom Studios, who have a first look deal with Paramount. This one will get picked up and when it does I will be ready with a copy or two.

Pick of the Week
Flash #1 – selling out everywhere, first appearance of a new Speedster, possible origin of Godspeed, already selling for above cover price. What else do you need on this one to pick up a few copies.

That is it for this week, let us know what you are spec-ing on.

Oh, just to mention for Star Wars 1st appearances, the movie adaption will most likely have Captain Phasma in it but this is not her first appearance, that was in Poe Dameron #2, albeit she was not physically there but speaking through a hologram, I’d consider this her first appearance in comic form I think.. at least I can’t find any other comics she’s been a part of. Someone correct me if I’m wrong. But if this is her first appearance and she becomes more dominant in the Star Wars world, could be a sleeper hit.

So what happened to 4 Kids …… #2?

    • Anthony says:

      That is a good question

      • It is supposed to be out Next Week. I met Matthew Rosenberg at Charlotte Heroes Convention this past weekend; told him I thought I’d missed #2 to a sell-out; but he said it actually wasn’t released yet, and would be out in a week and a half.

    • The first 4 kids walk into a bank also had a a weird release where it was out on different dates depending on where you lived.

      • agentpoyo says:

That’s Black Mask for you.. and right when you think it’s sold out, boom.. shops get more. No pun Black Mask but I think you playing the Marvel type games.. so stop it!

      • haha, Well said. I questioned my shop last time and they assured me I’d get my copy the following week.

  3. John F. says:

    Previews says June 29th. Hmmm.

    • agentpoyo says:

Problems with indies is, dates change all the time. I use to look up release dates for Image, the only one that is accurate each month is Walking Dead.. all the others, they shouldn’t even bother putting a release date on them, they’re always wrong.

  4. Alan says:

If La Muerta wasn’t 7.99, I would have picked it up.
