We open things up to hear from you. A free for all.
The 91st edition of the open forum!
As always we also want to hear about your weekly pickups.
So, What were your pick ups?
What had disappeared off the shelves?

  1. This weeks pickups……
Fantastic Four #45 1st Inhumans Found a mid grade for $115 Waited long enough found a decent deal.
Lone Wolf and Cub #1 1st print
Strange Tales #150 1st Umar. Umar is Dormammu’s sister and Clea’s mother. New sets Dr. Strange movie rumor.
Batman Superman #32 1st Kenan Kong. Had two of these preordered from Bad ass comics they canceled my order never sent me an email or anything was wondering why I haven’t got these yet had to search my Credit card history to find out this was cancelled and refunded. So yeah screw you Bad Ass comics.
New stuff probably each cover of Amazing Spider-Man #15, couple copies of walking dead and the round of rebirth stuff.

    1. I meant to mention Lone Wold and Cub last week. As always, great pickups and sorry to here about Bad Ass Collectibles being Ass Bad on those pre-orders

      1. Well they already make a cameo on dc rebirth with geoff johns so ur safe with issue 1. Me personally I think the new batman series is overrated. The new characters that are keeping it fresh and killing it for me are in the serie Green Lanterns, Superman, The Flash and Detective Comics.

  2. Alana: you should of said you wanted a copy of Batman Superman 32. I just listed one on Friday but already has a bid. I would of sold it to you instead. One of the reasons why we are all here. To help each other out huh Tony? LOL

  3. This week’s pull;
    Spread #14 both A&B
    Paper Girls #7
    Walking Dead #156 ×2
    Superman #2
    Justice League Rebirth #1
    Batman #2
    Throwaways #1
Superman the coming of the Supermen #6
Deadpool V Gambit #2 ( for the wife)
    Bob’s burgers #13 ( for the wife)
    Spidey #8
Amazing Spider-Man #15 ( if I find a copy tomorrow cuz I forgot to preorder it lol)

    1. ASM #15 should be easy to find at first. It’s a popular title that is usually heavily ordered at the local shops. I think it still hovers around the 80-100k mark each issue, so shouldn’t be an issue if you go the day it comes out.

  4. This week is definitely going to be bigger than last week for me. I know I’m getting J L Rebirth and Superman #2 but I think I might already be out on Aquaman. I have not decided about Green Lantern or Arrow yet.

    1. Dont be sleeping on Green Lanterns. Bleez is coming, Red Lanterns are coming, This is prob the best title out there right now

  5. Hahaha! I was reading Squirrel Girl 9. There was an ad for Magic Shave cream, an ethnic depilatory used by men to prevent razor bumps, starring Luke Cage “aka Power Man” drawn by Dale Keown. Reminded me of the old Hostess ads of Batman eating a fruit pie.

  6. If anyone picked up a copy of Sabretooth Dan # 2 from Scout Comics, it was missing a page. The Sabretooth Dan Facebook page issued a ” Recall Notice” which provides instructions on how to get an autographed copy of the missing page.

  7. Batman #2
Control #1: Great first issue, hopefully it can maintain its momentum
Faster than Light: I’m enjoying this book but it’s always on the bottom of my stack
The Fix #4: This has been a home run every issue.
Nailbiter #23 Yes Yes and more Yes!
    Punisher #3
Unfollow #9: I really want to drop this book but I’m waiting to see if the show becomes anything.
Paper Girls #7: I’m still not sure that I like this. I think i’m sticking around more in faith of BKV versus the actual enjoyment of the title.
I might pick up The Throwaways if there are any extra copies.

    1. Damn. I want to love unfollow. I love the concept, Battle Royale meets Social Media. But there has been no meat yet. It’s killing me waiting for people to get killed.

      1. I thought the concept was solid gold. In reality the execution has sucked. I keep waiting for something to justify me sticking with this book for so long but most months i’m left disappointed. If it wasn’t for the TV show it would have already been cut.

          1. I did a little pull list house cleaning a couple of weeks ago and I was really wanting to cut it. I just kept thinking with my luck that it would become the next Walking Dead and I would have missed out.

  8. Gonna snag:
    Justice League Rebirth #1
Batman #2 Tim Sale cover PC
    Superman #2
    Punisher #3 PC
    Amazing Spider-Man 15 both covers

Supergirl #5 for my daughter PC

    Batman #570 NM- for $10

Have tons for sale, out of money. Waiting on those to sell and I’m sure I’ll go spend another fortune. 🙂

  9. My pick ups are

    Asm15 x3
Uncanny Inhumans 11 grabbed the last 3 🙂
    Twd 156
    Throwaways 1

  10. My pick ups so far:
I went to a comic shop that knows me. The guy knows I sell comics and knows I probably make more money then him. But I like the guy. So I walked in and grabbed a couple more Walking Dead 156, Vision 4, Vision 1, Vision 1 Hip Hop, Iron Man 7, and Iron Man 9. Because he had two of each on the shelf I picked up the better of the two of each copy and pulled the other copy to give to him for secondary market sales. I explained the value of each one and where it could go. I check out and he checks the site. He instantly starts the “you fleeced me” thing. I said no, I did my research on the items I wanted to buy and had I tried to fleece you, I would have bought all the copies and left you with none and none of the info I want local shops to thrive so like getting my books and pointing out what is of value. He asked me if I find it rediculous that I buy comics from him at cover price and sell them for more online. I said no. I had no problem with it. I said you could do it but it takes work, research. He shook his head and said why don’t they just buy the cover prices copies from me. I said location, most of my buyers are from Texas or California. They can’t get to your shop. I said, I buy the comics at cover price and sell them. The money I make is off my knowledge and effort to look stuff up or read what other people and groups are talking about. He said, “I still feel fleeced”. I replied, all you have to do is start pulling all your wall books and see what they are selling for on eBay, too much work? Then that is on you.

    1. Jeez….What a jerk. The shop should be happy he sold his copies off of the wall and wasn’t left holding them. Of course now he’ll start checking his books on Ebay first and none of the good books will hit wall and he’ll wonder 6 months later why no one is coming in anymore….

      1. He already eBay checks everything I buy from his back stock and recent new releases. He knows what I do. He knows that I am a flipper. I make no bones about it. I also am a collector and reader so I can talk comics all day from every angle. I enjoy it. He also always says “good luck with the sales” no matter what I buy.

  11. Anthony –
Very interesting point and I think there’s a very fine line that can and does get blurred. First off, I use this site for specs and things have worked out fantastic. However, I knew about IM #7 for awhile based on sales on eBay and I recently picked up multiple copies, though I left another 4, 5 in the boxes. Had I put the books up for sale prior to your earlier posting re: the book, could I have been accused of “fleecing” people on the site? don’t think so, but I could see the rationale. Could I have been accused of not being a good member of the community for not sharing this info? definitely, but at the end of the day, I do this in order to put food on kids plate and they will always take precedence over people on this site, including Anthony.
In short, your perspective on being fleeced or doing the fleecing is going to be influenced heavily by where you stand in the relationship. Don’t know what the right answer is

    1. Mr Troll-
First, I found your argument very good and don’t see the need for the name Mr. Troll since you are providing a very good conversation. I am going to go point by point with your response. Glad you use the site and glad things have worked out. I also knew about IIM 7 for a while and have been picking up copies quietly. However on this case, I pointed out books of value. Had you put up copies for sale before the article, could you have been accused of fleecing the readers, no. I don’t think so. Your timing would be great but there are multiple places to buy and I always encourage people to check their LCS. More than likely a “pump and dump” label would have been affixed to the site for pointing out key books but I not see where you would have been fleecing. Could you be accused of not being a good member of the community for not sharing, perhaps, but the info is out there and people should do their own research. I only point out a handful of the books that have potential and usually keep somethings close to the vest in case it doesn’t pan out, not all spec does. I try to point out things that are working and not wild speculation. If you are doing this to put food on your kids plate, I truly commend you and think you are a resourceful dad that cares. You are correct, the perspective on being fleeced does depend on which side of the deal you are on. However, I did not shelf clear, but did offer information, several times this week in fact, on books I was purchasing and why they should be pulled. I pulled a vf Vision 5 off the shelf and handed it to him. I sold one last night for $10 and could have easily done it again. But I chose to help the shop owner. Not fleecing but sharing. But as a customer I have a right to go in to a store and purchase anything for the price in which it is marked. Buying something for its price, regardless of its market value, is not fleecing.

  12. My local shop is always doing his research and if your not there to get the book at cover, he will bump his price couple bucks above cover. It’s just business. If you sleep in and missed the ferryboat that’s on you. That’s why I get my books at cover and when he find out, the next day or whatever then he bumps his prices. For example on ASM #4 1st Silk, I got 3 at cover, went back the next day to get other books and saw that he had bumped them to $10. It’s just business.

    1. But he does his research or is watching buying patterns. Either way he is on his game somewhat. This store does not sell inflated price back issues but seemed to take offense to me buying his cover priced back issues to sell at market price.

      1. Sounds like a store called Gotham comics in Mississauga that if a customer finds something in their bin and it’s more than sticker value they call you out saying you hustled them. Losers . Terrible customer service

      2. It’s a store!! They have a price on the book! If they don’t want to sell you a book for the price they have on it they need to take the book off of the shelf. It doesn’t matter what plan you have for the book. You could roll it up and use it as toilet paper albeit painful it is your perogative. I can’t believe a store owner/ worker would be in any way negative about any customer buying anything from them.

  13. First of all, if you saw me, you’d understand why I call myself Mr. Troll 🙂
I agree with everything that you wrote – you obviously put in a heck of a lot of work into this site and you provide a tremendous service for many of us here, so in no way should you feel that this is a criticism of what you’ve done.
I know I feel awkward going into my LCS and buying 10 copies of a book – that’s why I didn’t load up on Bat/Supes #32, L&C #8, etc. (though I picked up about 5 copies) But if I was a store owner, I would likely be frustrated that people who buy multiple copies are going to be profiting off of the product that I spent time and money bringing to market. Yes, they should be aware of eBay prices, but I can understand their frustration.
Someone pointed out earlier that all LCS should put out books for cover price – well, if you’re Mr. LCS and you’re aware of eBay pricing, you’ll be critiqued for holding books back. But if you do put them out for cover, you’ll see people buying them in bulk knowing they’re going to flip them.
I do agree with the limit of 1 copy at times and conceptually putting a cap on some books as that will reduce the # of profiteers, but there’s a risk of not moving all your product with such a limit.
I’m sympathetic to both sides – I won’t stop buying my 5 copies of TWD #156, but I also won’t clear out my LCS

    1. I have a friend that goes by Shrek. Because, well, he looks like him. Thank you for the kind words and thank you for jumping into the conversation it had been interesting. I did not feel you were criticizing either. I always ask shops if they have a limit on purchasing copies of books. If they say no, then I have at it. If they say yes, then I respect that. However, if they are selling a book, at cover price, it doesn’t matter what you do with it. You could be buying to flip, use as an art project, line a bird cage, or wall paper your bathroom, they shouldn’t get mad at you for grabbing copies of something for sale in their store. I have never seen Best Buy get mad about someone buying 10 copies of a game, or Old Navy getting mad at someone buying 10 of the same shirt.
The point of the shops being aware of eBay prices and adjusting accordingly is in reference to back stock. I don’t think anyone has a problem with wall books or books priced higher in the back issue bins. And sure if they keep a couple back, they still need to make a profit. But the issue of stores getting blasted is when they raise the price of a book that just came out today. That is wrong.

      1. There’s a shop I go to where the owner is very vocal against speccing and is always lecturing people on how comics are meant to be read and enjoyed. I always butt in with offers for his key issues off the wall at whatever their cover price is, then I act all surprised when he declines. It’s gotten to the point where he will just shout a cross the store ‘no,you can’t have them for 25c!’ before I get a chance. I like to think of it as ‘our thing’.

        1. There are three different things here at play 1. SPECULATION- buying something in hopes that the price will go up in the future. 2. COMMON SENSE- this is buying a book that you already know is of value that is sitting on the shelf for cover price (see also knowledge, research, and blind luck) 3. PAYING MARKET VALUE- This is buying a book off the wall for full market value just because it is stickers that way. (This can also be speculation, because you are hoping the value increases, but cannot be common sense, as you are paying full market value)
The retailer shouldn’t guess as to what your motivations are, nor should care. He doesn’t like speculation, and sure as heck doesn’t want you to have common sense, especially before his kicks in.
          >

  14. Then he’s not a good business man and shouldnt get mad for you doing that. Just my opinion. Get mad for being a lady business man not cuz your in there buying books.

    Fix 4
    Spread 14
    Tokyo Ghost 8

    Splat Harley Quinn mini comic
Sabretooth Dan 2 (see my comments above)
Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur 1

    Spiderman Deadpool 6
    Invader Zim 10
Gwenpool 3 (with the My Neighbor Totoro cover with Modok standing in for Totoro)

      1. Go to the Sabretooth Dan FB page. There is an email address to which you send your physical address. I have yet to receive a response to my email.
Also picked up SSB2 and Giant Days 16.

      1. What was the twist? I only ask because I read the first three issues but found myself going, “This is moving too slowly,” and gave-up on the book. Should I have stuck around?

        1. Hmm. Spoilers ahead.
Ok so There is a fight and the boy who was super into superheroes gets run through with a knife. He had pricked himself with the blood of Plutona but didn’t get superhero powers. He dies. Plutona wakes up and flies off after a WTF moment of asking the kids that you see a body in the forest and do not call for help.

  16. Everyone is Sleeping on Green Lanterns 2 First of All
Besides that, Superman 2 is a no brainer along with Justice League Rebirth

  17. I’m going to open by staying, damn, it’s so much nicer to be off work and able to go to the shop at opening. Less stress about missing books too!
    This week I got:
    Batman – both covers
    Justice League – both covers
    Superman – both covers
    Walking dead – a few
    Spiderman
    Spidey
    Nailbiter
    Deadpool v gambit
    Green lanterns
    Spread

      1. Try eight Wednesdays in a row (and all the other days too!). I like to think of it as a 67 day weekend.

  18. Asm 15 might be the early Wednesday winner. Ended up buying 4 all together. Sold 2 for 15$ shipped each already.

  19. Any thoughts on the 2nd print of Steve Rogers Captain America #1 with the “Hail Hydra!” on the cover? I found it amusing, considering how upset some people were at the revelation.

    1. Roger Hayden the Psycho-Pirate is shown with Hugo Strange. A classic DC villain of the Justice Society. He can control emotions using his magical mask. And driven insane because he is the only person who remembers the DCU world prior to the first Crisis on Infinite Earths. Could be important to the pre 52 DCU as well?

  20. Pick ups for the week:
    Bounty #1
    Batman #2
    Justice League Rebirth #1
    Superman #2
    The Fix #4
    Paper Girls #7
    Renato Jones #3
    Throwaways #1
    Tokyo Ghost #8
    Amazing Spiderman #15
    Empress #4
    Super Zero #6
    Kim & Kim #1
    Walking Dead #156
    Satan’s Sodomy Baby 2
Didnt really go for any flips this week since Canada post might go on strike. I’ll flip Walking dead if I can since I dont follow the series. ASM 15 I think I might just hold on to a bit longer and flip for more down the line if possible, good looking book so I might also just keep it 🙂

    1. I saw alot of these at my local Walmart…All the comics are rolled up inside…condition of these are not good at all. I stayed away though….

    1. Oh man that is rad. Bill sandwich is the man. I always spell it sandwich cuz I can never remember how to spell it. Cool cover indeed.

  21. Got off work early and was able to get ASM 15 and also got the death of X cover for ASM 15 as well for $5. Also got for the PC uncanny x-men 212 and 213. Also found for cover 2 walking dead 154. As well as the worst x-men ever #1-5 all at cover. Last thing I got was Poe Dameron #4 Aja variant for $20. Best cover I got. I showed it to my youngest and he loved it. He wanted to open it and fly the x-wings lol.

      1. Did you see the Harley # 1 Cover B finally unveiled? Link in comments right before this..what do you think? Alot hate it..I love it !

  22. Here are my pickups today:
    7x ASM #15
    1x ASM #15 Death of X Variant
    2x Throwaways #1
    2x Solarman #1
1x every Rebirth cover out today
1x Kingpin #1 variant (awesome cover)
And also VERY happy I stockpiled a bunch of Invincible Iron Man #7 and #9.

  23. Just checked out the cover B for Harley Quinn #1 and WOW!!! What the fudge was he thinking. It looks like a cougar girl trying to look sexy lol.

    1. The double hands make it kinda creepy though..looks like she is holding severed hands IMO..

      1. I like both A and B covers as for variants love the color Dell Otto the B/W one not so much, Artgerm, Louw, March, the Forbidden planet variant. I did end up with all Three of the Artgerm variants my original preorder was in the time frame to order the line variant Artgerm. Was going to pass on the line variant until I saw one sold for $100 already.

      2. yeah my friend Brian Springman sent me that one yesterday. I started a post last night and held off because I thought AOD had announced another variant. So this makes 37 I believe.

  24. Only got to go to 2 stores today. My in store pickups included . . . . . .
    Superman #2a and b ×2 each
    Batman #2a and b
    J L Rebirth a and b
    The Fix #4 ×2
Walking Dead #156 ×2 also called my main Shop and told them to put one in my pullbox
    Renato Jones #3
Sabertooth Dan #2 need to check that Facebook thing out
    Unfollow #9
    Flintstones #1d
Going to try to get to a couple more stores tomorrow.

  25. My “Day after Wednesday” hunting came up with:
    Vision 1-4, 6-7 – all at cover
Invincible Iron Man #7 variant, #9 (x3) – all at cover
    aaaaand….. Sandman #75 2nd printing for $5. HOT DAMN!!!

  26. Hi Guys,
I want everyone to know it works both ways. I order most of my comics online and before the Previews deadline. I pre-ordered 7 Saga’s #1 did not get a single one and 5 Peter Panzerfausts #1 and got 2. But, here is the real kicker… the online comic store did not give me a single Chew #1 and I pre ordered 10. Now, all of my misses I always received but the comics that were hot never made it to me, they Claimed that the Supplier shorted them. Now, that is “Fleecing” because my comics were “Hot” they were taken from me and probably sold online. I left that store and reported them they to this day have banned me. They are still around and offer many comics at half price and Discount comics for sale.

  27. Picked up all the Rebirth titles…really love both Aquaman covers…different styles that are very visually appealing…regarding cover A – who doesn’t want to see a bloody battle between Aquaman & Manta?!…and cover B is just beautiful…I love Patrick Gleason’s art, but thought Superman cover A was very bland (Supes breaking thru the clouds?!) and I was a little disappointed to find out Bryan Hitch did the artwork for Justice League…I used to like his art but now find it too sketchy/grainy for my taste…but I’m a big JL fan so will stay on board regardless.
Bought all 5 Flinstone covers…interior art looks awesome…not familiar with Steve Pugh but he has a new fan…I just hope the story measures up. I also picked up Future Quest. Since it’s a Big DC week, thank goodness a local chain is still running its 50% off all DC Rebirth promotion.
    Also got…
Amazing Spidey x 3, plus the Death of X variant
Civil War II Kingpin Black Panther variant
Civil War II Xmen cover B
Han Solo all 4 covers…couldn’t resist
Iron Man Death of X variant
    Moon Knight
    Poe Dameron both covers
    Punisher variant
    Spidey
    Totally Awesome Hulk
    Vote Loki variant
    The Fix
    Nailbiter
Renato Jones (loved the 1st issue, have to catch up on 2 & 3 now)
    Revival
    Spread
    Walking Dead x 2
Miraculous (Ladybug) cover A – oversized 1st issue, looked cute, did not realize it’s based on a Nickelodeon show, may share with my 2 daughters, only saw 3 copies total @ 3 stores.
    From prior weeks…
Xmen Worst Xmen Ever 1 (will read 1st issue to see if it’s interesting enough to get the rest)
    Lucas Stand cover B
Passing on Daredevil Punisher mini-series…getting tired of Marvel’s $4.99 price point. Avoided DC’s Suicide Squad Deadshot/Katanna mini-series for same reason. On the fence about Solarman 1…it’s in my pull box, but…? Did anyone read it? I’m getting weary of collecting successive prints…even for books like The Fix and Renato Jones. And I would like Black Mask to focus on their existing books (where is Young Terrorists 2?) before releasing new books.

    1. I thought Superman 2 cover A was boring as well. Good question on Young Terrorists #2. No mention of it anywhere. I am digging the Fix reprint covers. However, I am not normally a completist but get a good feeling about the potential for this book. (Spread being the exception, I collect all the covers, well Enormous also.)

      1. Bought The Fix 1 and Renato Jones 1 2nd prints…may not go any further…we’ll see. My biggest blunder was ignoring Batman 608 2nd print many moons ago…could have cared less & missed the boat…finally picked it up a few years back for $10. I am becoming less of a completionist…just too much product.
Regarding Black Mask…did not pick up Jade Street Protection Services or Kim & Kim…just did not look interesting to me…did I miss anything there?
Picked up Joyride 1 (2nd print, b/c no 1st prints) and 2 a few weeks back…thought they were an ok read…will probably pick up 3 next week…this book was catching some heat…not sure why?…and it’s a mini-series to boot…any thoughts?
Back to Justice League…I so wanted Jason Fabok on the art…or Ivan Reis…major bummer…wonder who the alternating artist will be…?

        1. I haven’t had a chance to read Kim and Kim or Jade Street yet. I am behind in my reading. Have a big pile of shame to get through.

      2. Brett booth just confirmed on twitter with his convo with me that old wally is the flash and will stay that way same with barry so there could be a team flash or flash corps as he compared there being multiple flashes to there being multiple green lanterns. First wally as flash was crisis 12, good spec right now so happy hunting peeps

    2. You want a good cover with Aquaman fighting black manta go check out geoff johns new 52 not this crap, just my 2 cents

      1. I thought the new Aquaman 1 from Rebirth was a decent set-up story…looking forward to reading issue 2…internal artwork looks pretty good..did you give the book a try?

    3. Ya im just not feeling it, i think Aquaman and Batman will be the hardest to win back fans they will try but it will not be the same. Geoff Johns killed it in Aquaman and same with Snyder in Batman hard shoes to fill. Instead the new characters are whats intresting to me, like John Kent Superboy, Jeasica Cruz, New Wally West stuff like that and love what there doing with tim drake and damian

  28. 3 copies of IM #9 & 1 copy of IM #7 (total of 5 +1 variant) (kicking myself – could’ve gotten at least
5 more of each regular cover had I not needed to travel to the Midwest for my dad’s marriage)
    4 copies of Worst X-Man #3
2 copies of IM #4 – I think with Iron Spider, this is going to blow up
2 regular and 2 variants of ASM #15
3 copies of Uncanny Inhumans #11
2 copies of signed Civil War: choosing sides
all for cover, except for WXM, which was for $4.50

    1. Nice. Just picked up another Iron Man 7 off the shelves of a local store that I was sure was out of them. Also picked up another Hillbilly 1 at cover, good flip, XWX 3, Vision 1 Hip hop X 2. Going to bleed them dry on that one as they still have more copies. And more Walking Dead 156. Need four more for a friend.
