Wednesday Winner: Hillbilly #2

It is nice to walk into a shop on Wednesday and buy new comics. It is an added bonus when you can walk into a shop, buy books, and sell them for multiple times cover price by the end of the day. Hillbilly #2 is one of those books.
Hillbilly #2 by Goon creator Eric Powell came out today. It currently has listings for $17.00 and up on eBay. Copies have sold for as much as $24.99. The book was not sent out to all regions today it seems as many people are reporting their shops did not get many copies. The first issue sold out it’s 10,000+ copy print run and has already shot up in price. The second issue of a book usually sells less copies as stores scale back on the 2nd issue, and this one’s final order cut off was before shops had sales numbers for the first issue.

  1. I’m debating whether to flip mine quickly or hold on to it to see if it goes up. What do you guys think? Think this’ll cool down or the low print run might make the prices go a up if I wait a bit?

    1. I am doing both. Listed some and keeping some. Once a couple sell it doesn’t matter because they are paid for and then it is house money anyway regardless of what happens.

      1. I’m holding two copies of #1 & #2 because it’s ongoing and I love Powell’s work. I haven’t read #2 yet but thought #1 was well done. I usually add any Powell books to my subs once they’re solicited.

  2. It’s funny. I rarely get a Wednesday off, but did yesterday. Was at the shop when it opened which I haven’t been able to do for a long time. Most everyone there was searching on there phones and picking up Rebirth issues. In the meantime I grabbed all 5 War Mother covers as the shop only had one of each of the incentive covers. Then grabbed Hillbilly #2 while one goober was contemplating which Hal Jordan Rebirth covers to buy. Some folks take flipping too seriously and miss out doing too much analysis I think. One guy was hovering protectively over the Evil Ernie’s though and that has me intrigued.
All that said, other than Flash I can get pretty much any issue of any Rebirth readily. Talk about a flooded market.

    1. Yeah. For the most part it is pretty flooded. I would love to see what sites they were checking out or doing eBay searches for certain books.

      1. More than likely eBay. I still have the guy looking at Evil Ernie making me wonder. I am no where near the most informed guy, but I hadn’t heard anything and he was guarding those things fairly rigorously.

  3. I only managed to get one copy of #1, at least I’ll have one complete set. Going to start pre-ordering these so I don’t have to worry about finding them on Wednesday’s.

  4. My nearest LCS didn’t have any by the time I got there Wed afternoon so I hit up a different one today. Picked up the 2 they had left plus a few Lady Killer variants at cover. They also had 4 copies of Harley Quinn #30 1:25 variant at cover sitting on the rack mixed in with the standard cover (?????). They must have had damaged copies and Diamond sent them the variant.
    I’ll take it!

  5. I’m not saying this book is the next walking dead as far as popularity goes. But in recent memory, this book in my opinion has the most potential in a long time to be that next mega book.
    People it’s good. Really good.
    I’ve only got 2 #1s left and could only get 1 #2.
I do feel like I could use a couple more of each, I’m going long on this one.
