We open things up to hear from you. A free for all.
The 98th edition of the open forum!

As always we also want to hear about your weekly pickups.
So, What were your pick ups?
What had disappeared off the shelves?
What was sitting on the shelves?
What back issue deals did you grab?

        1. Cant help it. Someone sends me the spoilers. I can say Detective turns out flat and not at all like “something you won’t believe” or however they put it.

  1. Nothing too exciting for me this week. Titans #2, Cho cover to Wonder Woman.
Pickups this past week included the Artgerm covers to Birds of Prey & The Web from DC. Couple odd Michael Turner variants to an Image book called Gear Station. 2nd & Charles had a sale going on BAM variants, many marked down to a dollar. So I got a number of copies of Young Terrorists #1 and We Can Never Go Home #1 & #2. Now if they ever continue those series, both were great reads.
A couple of under the radar & overlooked books from last week:
Kong of Skull Island #2 Stan Sakai Variant. Found it for cover price. Stan has a pretty loyal following from Usagi Yojimbo, and the few guys I know that collect him are completists. Plus he doesn’t do too much outside of Usagi. This was a nice virgin art cover too, all the copy was on the back cover. In fact, that’s how I found mine, it was bagged & filed reverse.
The other book is The Backstagers by James Tynion IV. An all ages book set in a theatre, sold out at Midtown. The 1:25 cover by Rob Guillory is nice, but the 1:10 Playbill is the true gem. Selling on Ebay for $10-15 currently. But it is an homage cover to the HAMILTON playbill, and I don’t think that’s caught on yet. The auctions I saw don’t mention it, but trust me. I found a copy for cover. When my 14 year old saw it there was a squeee and a scream of “OMG, HAMILTON!I WANT IT!”.
If you have somehow missed out on the phenomena of Hamilton on Broadway, ask any teen you know. They will sing you any song from the 4 hr soundtrack. And grab this if you see it!

    1. I love the Stan Sakai variant cover to Star Wars 1 with Darth Vader Force-dueling with Yoda. I am seriously considering getting my copy slabbed for my pc.

  2. This weeks pick ups………..all these below cover if not a dollar

    Harley Black book #5

    1. Also I’ve received all my Harley variants I’ve ordered from around the world but one shipment, Aspen comics. Guess because of their great choice to increase print runs I get less then satisfactory shipping and customer service to go with my increased print run books.

      1. Hmm. I have received my Aspen and sold them already, I have also gotten my Legacy Artgerms and have listed them. Only one I am waiting for is the AOD variants.

      2. I got my puddin pack as well, last week. I need to list but I’m debating sending off to get graded as they are effin immaculate condition, I can’t find anything wrong with them to be honest.

  3. What’s up CHU ? Every Tuesday I make a shopping list for the next day at the comic shops, but ever since my move when I decided to cut back I’ve stopped the list and just go in the shops blind. It has actually helped I don’t find myself getting as much as before, but I know I am not going to be too busy at work tomorrow so I am already planning on hitting at least 3 shops.
I got a couple of packages in the mail on Saturday. The first was my Blindbox sub. and I got one each of the Animosity #1 the color and the b/w the color was signed with a COA. The next was my comics I sent to CBCS to be graded my Decesender #1 EH b/w got a 9.8, Monstress #1 signed got verified and a 9.6 and Rick and Morty #1 BAM got a 9.8. That was the first time I sent any comics to be graded, overall I was pleased with the process so I will most likely do it again. Talk to you guys tomorrow with my pickups.

  4. I’m tapping out of the specs for a while. The weekly grind has started to get to me so I’m going to lay low and focus on getting books for my PC. I picked up a nice copy of Forever People #1 late last week and just bought X-Men #13 (2nd Juggernaut), bringing me one step closer to completing my run from 1-544 (only 32 more to go!). I might have one or two more in the hopper, but the deals aren’t done quite yet.

  5. Not a big week for me. My wallet likes me lol
    Flash #5
Harley’s little black book #4 (for the wife)
    Deadpool #17
Once our land #2 ( going to call the same comic shop that had #1. Hopefully they do).
Lake of fire #1 ( love the medieval era and I do believe we r not alone in this universe. Wanna see how well it is written)
Going to drop Batman as well and keeping all-star Batman.

  6. Just a heads up for those who may not check their email everyday and bought the “Once our Land” Graphic novel. Peter Ricq sent out an email yesterday stating Paypal was not showing all addresses for those who made purchases. If any of you did buy the any of the remaining stock from the kickstarter graphic novel he had for sale (sold out on his website now) he is requesting that you email him with your Pay-pal transaction number for that purchase and your mailing address. So, if you ordered check your email for his full request.

  7. Ultimate Fallout 4 1:75 (five below) – 5$
    Silk 1 comicspro – 80$
    Unbeatable Squirrel Girl 1 (2015) 1:25 Oum Variant – 9$
Superior Iron Man 1 Skottie Young – impulse buy, already regretting, but may be RiRi’s first appearance
    A-force 3 Brooks Variant CGC 9.8 – Second copy. 55 shipped

    1. Was the Ultimate Fallout #4 1:25 on the top of a 5 Below Pack? If it was in the middle, which books were showing on top?

      1. He signed mine at SDCC. I also had Nicola Scott’s autograph on the book when I handed it to him. Made for an interesting signing 🙂

  8. Picking up this week:
    Squirrel Girl 11
    Maybe:
If I see a copy of Once Our Land 2, I will pick it up, but I received my HC copy last week, so I won’t be too upset if I don’t find one.
    Receiving in the mail today:
Death Deluxe Edition HC signed by Neil Gaiman (CBLDF has signed copies of this $20 book for $40. Neil Gaiman has started to limit his signings. I was going to get the Absolute Edition from CBLDF to match my Sandman Absolute collection, but the shipping was cost-prohibitive and the signature was on a bookplate instead of in the book, so I settled for this edition signed.)
I’m also gearing up for RCCC. Trying to figure out what I want to get signed and/or graded by CBCS and what I want to keep raw to sell at the local comic swap coming in October. I’m going to have my first table at the swap. Looking for fixtures and ways to display comics at a show. It’ll force me to organize.

  9. Not much to say this week. Saw suicide squad again. Still loving it, so that’s good. Today I got:
    Action comics
    Detective comics
    Hellblazer – both covers
    Blue beetle – both covers
    Deathstroke – both covers
    Lil poopy superstar
    Pitiful human lizard
    Deadpool
    Chew
    Invincible
    Outcast
    Star wars
    Flash
    Uncanny inhumans annual

  10. anyone going to rose city comic con in portland, OR next month? never been before but the guest line-up is full of notable creators, both veteran and up-and-coming:

    nicola scott, “black magick”
    chris sheridan, “motorcycle samurai”

      1. Like I said last week, I upgraded my copy of SIP 1 to a first print to get signed and slabbed. I have his first published work, Hit the Beach 1, to get signed. I gave my daughter his set of how to draw comic books that I’m going to get signed for her after I give him a picture she is drawing him this week or next. I’m also going to lug around my copy of the Complete SIP. Thankfully, it is the paperback edition but still heavy. Still looking for a copy of Genus 2.

      1. Tony, I wouldn’t touch that with my ten foot pole.
Portland has a lot of creators come through town. I’m still waiting for Frank Cho, though. Missed James O’Barr last year. Geoff Darrow will be at RCCC this year.
I’ll also get to pay back Stan Sakai. Last time he was at a show in Portland, I spent the last of my con money on a half-off cover price, clearance Usagi Yojimbo Special Edition HC set from Fantagraphics. Stan still sketched in both books free of charge. I feel guilty as hell and want to pay him for the art and his time and for being so awesome.

        1. Cho Will be at Baltimore this year. Well, he is a Baltimore every year because he lives up the street. I’m hoping to get him to sign the wonder woman books.

        2. Darrow was at New York comic con last year. He did a pterodactyl sketch just for the hell of it for me. It is awesome what is done in red sharpie and I have nowhere to hang it

  11. Not many pickups this week, got the complete set of Steranko’s 1973 Supergirls calendar pinups for the PC on ebay for $50. Money well spent!

    1. Nice, Steranko is a god.
For proof, get out a Captain America 113, open it to the centerfold. Be amazed. Once you have collected yourself, turn the page. Even more unbelievable art. They don’t make em like that anymore.
And the pinup calendars, he knew how to draw the ladies that’s for damn sure!

      1. I have the Sternako Cap issues, I met him a few years ago and got all of my Shield issues signed and a few of the Supergirls prints that he was selling

  12. Lake of Fire #1
This is my favorite book of the week. I found it so easy to read, that I almost forget I was reading. There are a decent amount of characters introduced, but they all have instant identifiable personalities making them easy to remember, recognize, and relate to. This is also a double sized book for only $3.99!

  13. Totally off topic:
Of course Canada’s first poke bar is called Pokeh. (Poke, pronounced poke-ay, is a raw fish dish that is starting to get trendy. One just opened in Portland called Poke Mon.)

  14. Couldn’t get a hold of Once Our Land #2. Seemed like most places around here didn’t even have it ordered.
