Agent Poyo's Picks of the Week for Sept. 28th, 2016

Welcome to Poyo’s picks of the week, where I give you my chicken wisdom in what I think you should be picking up or reading. Sometimes I’m even right and nail a spec, but that’s a rare occurrence.
Last week’s winner (Seven to Eternity) was kind of a no brainer, but it did end up heating up way faster than I anticipated. Maybe I can pick this weeks winner and get two weeks in a row, since getting one spec right is an accomplishment in itself.
DC/Vertigo Pick
Frostbite #1 (Vertigo) – A new book from Joshua Williamson, our favorite writer behind Nailbiter. It’s a definite book to check out. Earth is in it’s second ice age, heat is power and there are gangs seeking it for control. Then to top it off, there’s a terrible disease nicknamed “frostbite”, where once you get it, you literally freeze inside out. There is no cure, until now!
Marvel Pick
Spider-Man Deadpool #9 (Marvel) – This series is already hot, most issues have gone back for multiple printings. Now there’s a new character, Itsy Bitsy. Yes, pick up 1, or pick up 5. Could end up being a major new character and people will be seeking these out for sure.
Indie Picks of the Week
Sentient #1 (Hermes Press) – “What if everything you knew about your life was a lie? When unassuming advertising illustrator Robert Moore begins having brutal nightmares that quickly bleed into his everyday life, he must try to decipher the truth from his torrid dreams, violent delusions, and his skewed perception of reality. But when Robert realizes his long-time girlfriend is sneaking around behind his back, he discovers that the truth to his nightmares is more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined. The beginning of a new, extraordinary, title; read it every month!”
X-O Manowar #50 (Valiant) – One of my favorite Valiant books and one of my favorite pulls each month, X-O Manowar hits issue #50. They’re claiming it’s a big Valiant event that will affect the entire Valiant Universe with a whole new era. I sure hope it doesn’t let me down.
Hillbilly #3 (Albatross Exploding) – Eric Powell’s new hit keeps on selling out each issue.
I Grew Up In The 80s Pick
M.A.S.K. Revolution #1 (IDW) – I loved M.A.S.K., and still do. I wish I still had all my old toys, I think I had every single one growing up.
Poyo’s Favorite Pulls
Flash #7 (DC) – A rare DC title makes its way into my favorite reads and pull list.
Descender #15 (Image) – Lemire has a hit here. I’m sure this will be optioned or made into a show/movie one day, it would do well I think.
Saga #38 (Image) – Duh!
Star Wars #23 (Marvel) – They’ve been playing episodes I – VI all weekend and I’ve been having it play pretty much in the background the whole time on my lazy weekend.
That’s all Poyo has this week..

  1. Descender is a great read, it was announced as optioned for film right before they released #1. Spider-Man/ Deadpool #9 could be the big winner over time. Frostbite sounds interesting.
