Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 9/28/16

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the shelves, each with potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 9/28/16
Another light week this week. I am thankful for that since I will be off to NYCC soon. Anyway, here is what we are spec-ing.
Returning Favorites
Deadly Class #22 – I have long been talking about rick Remender as a great writer. Last week we saw a huge spike in Seven To Eternity. Make sure you check out this awesome book about a school for assassins set in the 1980’s
Descender #15 – Such a great book that this ends up on the top of the pile each month.
Lake of Fire #2 –  Image’s new book about nights fighting aliens has a pretty strong start. Looking forward to seeing where this goes.
Saga #38 – Always appears on the list. It is that good. Like the Walking Dead, find issues and hold them for the long run. This is going to be an epic book that people talk about for years.
The Rare Marvel One on the List
Spider-Man Deadpool #9 – First full appearance of Itsy Bitsy, she does appear, not in costume, in Spider-Man Deadpool #8. This could be a big new character. Pus, Deadpool’s new costume.
The New #1’s
Surgeon X #1 – Think back to some of the biggest Vertigo books ever. Sandman, Swamp Thing, Y the Last Man, and they all have one thing in common.. founding editor of Vertigo Karen Berger. So when she launches a new book, you bet I am on board.
Frostbite #1 – Joshua Williamson’s new book along with the incredible artist from Empty Zone, Jason Scott Alexander. Out from Vertigo this week. Looks great, plus, Joshua Williamson is a fantastic writer.

The Pick of the Week

Hillbilly #3 – This was the softball pick. Already sold out, already selling out on-line, and already going for above cover price on eBay. This will probably be the last of the issues that may have a small print run. After this one (or possibly with this one) retailers might start upping their orders. Will have to wait and see. All that aside, this is Eric Powell really at his best, self publishing!
That is it for me this week, let us know what you are spec-ing on.

    1. When it was first announced, I assumed it would be a mini-series, but they’ve managed to perpetuate it pretty well so far, so I believed it actually was an ongoing. There are a lot of books currently missing from solicitations that were never officially declared cancelled or dubbed a “final issue” when last solicited. If Mockingbird is cancelled at #8 I am going to be pissed, but we’ve yet to see anything about a 9th issue. 🙁

  1. Taking your advice and going to pick up Saga regularly, just picked up Saga #29 thru to current issue at cover, before that they are already creeping up, so just going to have to let them go. Already spent equivalent of GDP of Latveria this week, can’t do any more…
