A Look Ahead: New Series Debuting in December

The end of the year is just a little over two months from happening. The year will be in the can. In the mean time, there are still some great series coming out in that time.

Earth has a new god. The world you know is gone. Welcome to the Stalinverse, comrade.

WHY WE LIKE IT: The first series was a pretty big hit. The second series didn’t do as well as the previous series, however it has been a damn good read.

From screenwriter Nicole Perlman-co-writer of the Guardians of the Galaxy screenplay. Once upon a time she was Thanos’ heartless pet assassin and favorite daughter. Today, she is the backbone of the Guardians of the Galaxy, putting her life on the line to defend the innocent. What was it that transformed her from being used as a tool of her oppressor, to a champion of the powerless?
Embark on a journey of revenge and redemption, and witness how Gamora earned her reputation as the Deadliest Woman in the Galaxy.

WHY WE LIKE IT: Guardians fierce female gets spotlighted in this series. I do love “before they were famous” stories and this seems interesting.

In the troubled waters off Somalia, a rag-tag group of marine scientists studying a pack of female great white sharks find themselves caught in a conflict between pirates and the might of the US Navy. But why is the CIA so interested in the work of the scientists? And just how will they face up to the shadowy terror of the legendary great white – HOOKJAW?!

WHY WE LIKE IT: Since this book as first announced, we have been all over it. Great White Sharks are natures real monster and scary as hell. Just look at the draw of Jaws, and the recent movie The Shallows, for proof of how these beasts can command a story.

In the aftermath of a mysterious explosion that tears through a major metropolitan area, five stasis tubes are discovered. The coffin-like containers are empty, but each is branded with a woman’s name.
These women have wandered away from the disaster without a scratch – and with no memory of who they are. They discover that they each possess a remarkable ability. The ability to charm the masses, the power to control plant life, the gift of healing, supernatural senses, and unbelievable physical strength.

WHY WE LIKE IT: Cullen Bunn is a favorite writer around here. Z2 does some real good small press books.

JENNIFER WALTERS has survived the Civil War…barely…and having risen from the rubble, she re-enters the world a different kind of hero. Fueled by a quiet rage, she is determined to move forward, to go on with her life, but the pain of the past and all she’s lost is always there – an undercurrent, a pulse, waiting to quicken and trigger Jen’s transformation into the one thing she doesn’t have control over…

WHY WE LIKE IT: The tone of the book is very different than the recent Charles Soule (well written, but horrible art) She-Hulk Series. The Jade Giantess goes grey for this mini series

The team behind the critically acclaimed revamp of Batgirl returns with an exciting sci-fi action-adventure series! By day, Domino Swift competes for fame and fortune in a worldwide motorcycle racing league. By night, she cracks heads of rival gangs in brutal bike wars to gain possession of a rare, valuable contraband: an engine-boosting ‘machine narcotic’ known as Crush.

WHY WE LIKE IT: The preview book that was given away at Baltimore Comic Con’s Retailer Summit was intriguing, this series is worth the look up.

Flying and crushing coal into diamonds may come easy, but try popping a Kryptonian zit! Caldecott Honor-winning and Eisner Award-winning writer Mariko Tamaki (This One Summer) teams with Eisner Award-nominated artist Joëlle Jones (Lady Killer) for a coming-of-age tale like you’ve never seen before.
But while growing pains shake up Kara’s world, a deadly earthquake rocks the small town of Midvale beneath her feet! The Girl of Steel has a choice: let her world die, or overcome her adolescent insecurities and be super!

WHY WE LIKE IT: Joelle Jones…. Very little more to say there. The story sounds interesting and the cover image alone grabbed our attention. Supergirl having her own TV show, and a relaunched series, has brought more eyes on the character.

      1. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to imply you said it Anthony.
I know that title was getting heaps of “credit and acclaim” from some rather dubious if not disingenuous “critics”.

  1. I actually preferred the, “She-Hulk,” comic when it was being written by Dan Slott or Chales Soule and was really humorous and fun. This new re-launch just sounds grim, gritty, and bleh. For all I know it will be awesome, but that’s just my thoughts…
