Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 10/19/16

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. We pick the ones we feel have the best shot at heating up. Here are our Picks of the Week for Delivery 10/19/16:
Once again focusing on the lower tier books. This is a pretty good week for indy books. Check out what’s on tap…
Returning Favorites
Harrow County #17 – This Cullen Bunn book does not disappoint each month. With a media deal on the way, and being a hell of a read, it is worth the pick up.
Beauty #11 – I cannot be the only one who digs this series. The initial story line ended with issue 6 and it has been a series of single issues, and mini series style, stories. Just a great read with great art. I think this could easily transition into a media property.
Black Hammer #4 – Again, a fantastic read. A great throw back to classic super hero comics with a modern twist.
Throwaways #4 – Black hat operatives who have been activated and has super powers. Really a cool book.
Black Hood Season 2 #1 – Love this Archie Noir series. The last issue of the last season kind of ended abruptly. So looking forward to get the series rolling again.
TV Related Picks
With Ash VS. Evil Dead starting back up, here is a good set of three books coming out at the same time. Evil Dead 2 Dark Ones Rising #1, Evil Dead 2 Revenge of Dracula 1, and Evil Dead 2 The Martians One Shot. Put these up on eBay or Amazon with the key words Ash vs. Evil Dead and you can bet non-comic fans of the series (or the Evil Dead series) will pick them up.
Halloween Pick of the Week
Lord of Gore #1 – I picked up the Kickstarter variant o this at NYCC. The book is a good read. It takes place in a horror convention where fans of the Lord of Gore movie series are meeting their favorite stars. However, the slasher from the movie is actually coming to life to take out the actors.
Small Press Gem
Spell on Wheels #1 – Kate Leth has a good following. This all female cast of witches have been robbed of their magical items. The hit the road in this Supernatural meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer story to get them back.
Pick of the Week
Die Kitty Die #1 – New Book from Astro Comix. There are several variants on this one. Supernatural and pulp fiction thrown together. Kitty Ravencroft is a young witch who stars in her own comic book. Her publisher is going to kill her off, in real life. Fans of the Archie series Sabrina and Afterlife with Archie will dig this. Interesting looking book from a small press company, will be difficult to find in places.

  1. Thanks Tony! Black Hammer has been a great read! I pre ordered a couple copies of Die Kitty Die, hoping it does well, looks interesting and the cover art looks good.

      1. Didn’t know that! I’m liking cover B and the 1:10 variant for issue #1. Won’t get the variant as my lcs’s don’t order enough.

  2. I’m glad I ordered Lord of Gore. What I thought was just a back of the catalog cheesy pick is sounding really promising by the hype you guys have been giving it.

  3. I got Lord of Gore & Die Kitty Die via Kickstarter campaigns, but also pre-ordered copies of the covers available in stores. I actually didn’t see a single copy of either of them at my LCS. They never order enough on Indy titles that aren’t produced by Image or Dark Horse. I’m a fan of Daniel Liester’s work on horror books. He has another Kickstarter up right now that I’ve donated to. It’s one he’s been working on for years & it’s finally going to be released. This one has No Publisher attached, he’s doing it on his own, and it’s already been funded so it’s definitely Happening! 4. I also really hope The Beauty continues. With the primary storyline ending at #6, and tales now being told set during that time period, it has me worried they could pull the plug at any time. Word of mouth really helps, so us vocal fans do what we can, lol.
