Wednesday Open Forum

Wednesday

Wednesday, the best day of the week, new comic book day. It is like your birthday in the middle of each week (well, one where you buy your own presents.)
We open things up to hear from you. A free for all.
The 107th edition of the open forum!
Oops! I forgot the open forum! Thanks Jesus for the reminder.
“Don’t mess with my Wednesdays”.
As always we also want to hear about your weekly pickups.
So, What were your pick ups?
What had disappeared off the shelves?
What was sitting on the shelves?
What back issue deals did you grab?

  1. American Monster #5. These are taking forever between issues it seems
    Postal #16
    Frostbite #2
    Saga #39
    Sombra #4
    Punisher Annual
Due to some changes at work I haven’t been getting to my comic shop on most Wednesdays. Sigh….Probably be another Thursday trip for me again this week.

    1. I hope your pull list is up to date! I update my pull every few weeks but I also call my shop at lunch to have them set aside the books I want that I don’t pull. If I ask for the same book three times, I add it to my pull.

      1. My only problem with my shop is their system isn’t the best for pulling books and things are sometimes missed. It’s been better here recently but I always check my books because they’ve missed stuff a few too many times.

  2. Slow-ish week (still too much but it is what it is) on the new comics front for me

  3. Seven to Eternity #2
    Frostbite #2
    Saga #39
Serenity: No Power in the Verse #1
    Spook House #1
Tried to get the Ms. Marvel #12 Red Widow variant at 4 different LCS, no dice:( All of them said they were shorted on their Ms. Marvel shipment for some reason. Anyone else have this problem?

  4. Pickups this week.

    Spookhouse #1 X 2
    Frostbite #2

  5. Vision #12 – conclusion to an awesome awesome series
    Spiderman / Deadpool #12
    Extraordinary X-Men #15
    Civil War #6
And me and my 9 & 7 year old are reading Flash, so Flash #9 and Teen Titans #1 (which remains to be seen if its going to be OK for them…the Rebirth issue was a little iffy with the language)

    1. I’m in the same boat as you. I have a 7 year old but I think the comics are just a little too mature for him. I used to edit out some of the language but now that he reads I can’t skip over things anymore.

      1. And he watches Flash on CW and is way way into it – he can track the plot and characters and alternate universes, etc, so we started in with the Flash comic and its been OK, but this last issue had a couple “Hells” and has some romantic relationship stuff that can weird…not terrible language, just depends on what you want them to see/read. If you find any good titles that you and your son/daughter like, let me know so I can try them out.

      2. My 10 and 8 year old are now allowed to say most curse words except a few, particularly the F bomb. They’ve been instructed to know the time and place, but never at school and never out in public. We feel, the less you make a big deal about curse words, the less big deal it is later. So far, it’s going well, they don’t even really say most cause it’s now, no big deal.

      3. 6 year old (almost 7 now) and a three year old. Most of their bad words are poop and body parts. Need to take Poyo’s style. I have slipped and let an F bomb slip in the car but for the most part my kids do not cuss

        1. I guess I’m old school? No bad words for my kids. I really don’t cuss either though so it’s not like they’re hearing too much from us. I’m sure my 13 year old gets an earful at school.

      1. For how much I hate to buy kiddy comics that money could be used on a spec, my daughter enjoys Steven Universe, Strawberry Shortcake, My little pony

  6. Why is everyone posting here? Didn’t they hear that the comics pick of the week is this weeks open forum? I believe it was decided by one of the sites most handsome visitors!
I guess I’ll repost my list here too for the uninformed 😉
    This week I got:
    Action Comics
    Shield
    Batman Beyond
    Birthright
    Chew
    Civil War
    Deadpool
    Detective Comics
    Hal Jordan
    Image +
    Outcast
    Spiderman/Deadpool
    Star Wars
    Teen Titans
    The Flash
    Hellblazer

      1. Don’t sweat it. Stuff happens.
I was recently thinking about how much time running a site this size would take. I’m fairly certain that I would have trouble even writing one post each week. You’re insane! You work full time and are a full time dad and yet you still manage to run CHU. Good job Tony! You’re allowed to (almost) miss one post.

      1. Have to agree… Tarantino did some great things but for me his movies are all pretty much the same these days. Just re-makes of themselves but in different eras and locations…outside of that same ol’ same ol. Wouldn’t be awful but wouldn’t be great either imo.

  7. This week’s pickups included…….
Action #966a and b last issue I’m picking up
Vision #12 I really hope that they collect this in a Deluxe HC
    Bloodshot USA #1b
    Spider-Man / Deadpool #10
    Flash #7
    Moonshine #1b
Lately I’ve found myself getting away from the quick flip and focusing more on the long burn (if that’s what you call it) and trying to get more complete series. I just recently finished a complete run of The Boys.

  8. Got both Ms Marvel 1:25 variants for $10 each late in the afternoon, thought for sure they would’ve been gone by the time I straggled into the shop but amazingly they were still on the shelf.
Sold the Taini for $40 in about 15 minutes for a nice quick flip
Ms Marvel #12 wasn’t on my radar at all until I read it on CHU today, so thanx guys!
I got what I really wanted Sunday night which was seeing “that scene” from WD #100 duplicated perfectly!
Girrion Kickstarter editions arrived in the mail late last week, CGC worthy 9.8’s for sure

  9. Five Below now has DC 4 pack assortments. The one near me didn’t have anything special, or worth buying. Mostly Convergence, Aquaman 3-D cover, etc but check your area shops!

  11. Was at a Cleveland Indians World Series party yesterday with my girls so I skipped the shop this week. They are going to Halloween comic fest this Saturday with me.Even my oldest is coming home from Kent State as it’s become kind of a tradition.I have shared the hobby with my daughters since they were able to read and I have 2 in college now and I believe that reading comics and the love of reading in general is a large reason they are having success in school. Just wanted to mention that Batman Tmnt Adventures #1 is sold out in advance. Also Alopex has been confirmed as a character on the Nickelodeon cartoon series voiced by Minae Noji who played Karai in the first movie reboot. I think Alopex first appearance is the IDW TMNT heroes micro series #1 Raphael. Batman Tmnt Adventures #2 was mentioned as having Harley Quinn and with the sell out of #1 the issue might have some heat.
