Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 11/9/16

Each week hundreds of new books hit the shelves, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 11/9/16
Going to be a quiet week for me. Not a ton of new small press books. That is good for my wallet since I spent so much on Midtown’s halloween sale. Anyway, here are the picks of the week..
Returning Favorites
Chimichanga Sorrow of the Worlds Worst Face #2 – Eric Powell’s creation, Chimichanga, as well as his handler Lula, return for the second chapter of the new series. Fun, subversive, classic Eric Powell story telling.
Black #2 – New series from Black Mask which has been the most exciting series from them in a while. Also, the fact that two issues are being released back to back is pretty impressive.
New Number #1’s
Spirit Hunter #1 – New Zenescope book. I haven’t been a big fan of their stuff in the past but I have sold their stuff. This new series seems interesting.

Ghosts and spirits have been with us since man first started walking the earth. What are they and what do they want? Why do some haunt places and seem to only mean us harm? One team of paranormal investigators sets out to answer that question, hunting the vengeful spirits that cross over to into our world and facing the most terrifying hauntings man has ever known.

Namesake #1 – New series from Boom and Supergirl Rebirth writer Steve Orlando. Once every seven years, Earth overlaps with Ektae, a world where alchemy is not pseudo-science but the driving force of industry. For seven days, Ektae breaches our world, bringing dirty magic and ideas. Jordan Molossus was born of Earth and Ektae and abandoned by both, but when he receives two cast iron urns containing his estranged fathers’ ashes, he’ll leave everything behind to put his parents to rest before Ektae disappears for another seven years.
Violent Love #1 – Frank Barbiere’s new series. The book is selling out on-line in advance of it being releases, which could be a good sign.
The Small Press Gem
Brigands #1 – Sold out at TFAW and Mycomicshop, good sign. From Action Labs so the print run could be tiny.
The Pick of the Week
Batman Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures #1 – No denying this will be the big one of the week, probably a print run to match, but with Harley and Joker (Animated Series ones at that) meeting up with the Turtles and Shredder, this is going to be a fun cross over.

  1. I’m also surprised about Black coming out. I’m glad to see it I hope it stays on a regular schedule.
