All that drama about souther bastards and it made it to the #1 spot lol.
Everyone needs to realize Marvel isn’t worth the price. Image,Dark Horse, IDW, these are where the good stories are….
For what it’s worth, I still think Marvel prices are competitive (and I also think they have superior writers over most of the other larger publishers), especially since most of their books offer up the free digital redemption code as well. Most of Image and Dark Horse are all now $3.99 type price tags. It’s only a select few that still hover around the $2.99 price tag, the ones that sell in larger volumes like Saga and Walking Dead. But I’ve seen most prices go up lately on Image books.. the only ones that seem to be sticking to the $2.99 for most of their books is DC.
The one thing I stand behind Marvel is, they’re bigger so they can meet deadlines. When they create a book, they at least attempt to finish it. One issue I have with independents is when the writer (or publisher) abandons the book. IDW and Dark Horse not so much, I consider them small publishers but Image is notoriously bad about abandoning books.. and they’re the 3rd largest publisher behind Marvel and DC.
It wasn’t a price discussion, it was their stories suck for 3.99
Isn’t stating their stories suck for their asking price is in itself a price discussion though? 😉
Oh no, you were comparing prices :-). I will pay 9.99 for a good story. I mean, Slapstick? Really?
Might not be for you but for others, maybe. I’ll agree somewhat. Take SquirrelGirl.. I think it’s the dumbest hero ever but I know some that just love the book.
Marvel puts out some crap. DC puts out crap. Image puts out a lot of crap. But let’s be honest, all the publishers are not 100% top notch on their titles they put out, that’s just never going to happen.
For me though, compared to DC and some of the other larger publishers, they do draw in some better writers for their existing titles. Most of them you can find doing their own work for Image and other independents.
Jason Aaron comes to mind.. love his independent work. This is the same guy who made me a Thor fan due to his work with Thor. I never bothered with Thor growing up..
Charles Soule is a great independent writer and look at the amount of books he’s currently writing for Marvel.
Image books are probably my biggest pickup that I check out (new titles and old ones) and then stop reading the quickest. I love a lot of Image books but I can also say they have the biggest pile of crap books in my collection that have made their way to Half Price books due to no one wanting them.
