  1. Is anyone pondering the same thing I’m pondering? Image announced they were gonna boost their #1 prints to prevent 2nd and 3rd prints but it seems since they’ve announced that, we’ve seen more and more of their books go back for 2nd and 3rd prints..

    1. For the past 4-5 months, I’ve noticed TONS of titles going for an unnecessary 2nd print—no matter the quality of the book. I think it’s a sales gimmick; IE “Oh look, this book has sold out, it must good”…….

      1. I actually like Curse Words and a few others that have gone through second prints. No saying that some of it is a gimmick, but looks at God Country which is selling for $30 and had a print run of 14,000 books roughly. The second print is doing well too.

      2. Yup.. I’ve noticed the same. I can only speak for my area where I see shops still trying to dump 1st prints or 2nd prints.. when they might be at a 3rd print.. but what rubs me wrong is when they specifically claimed they were going to boost #1 print numbers even if they were sold out to prevent 2nd prints, etc. Before that, not many books were going back for 2nd prints.. now it seems most if not all have..

        1. Yup. They did say that. They also said that variants are bad for the industry and recanted several months later by releasing the Reborn 1:100 variant. So you cannot believe everything they tell you.

      3. Curse Words and God Country are great books though… those I can understand why they went to 2nd and 3rd prints…
I can see Few going back cause it was under ordered as well. That’s the thing though, if these are all under ordered, there should be plenty at Diamond still available since Image stated they boosted their initial prints so Diamond has them readily available. This does not seem to be the case… at least from a buyers perspective.

    2. Yeah, I definitely remember that article, and maybe for 6-8 months afterwards it seemed like hardly any Image titles had a reprint. Right before the article, it was mostly pointing at Saga, which was getting reprints for every single issue of the early run, with retailers being criticized for not ordering enough to meet demand on a repeated basis. But Image didn’t keep their word very long, and got right back to reprinting the early issues of every new title they produce.
Image criticizing industry practices tends to turn around and bite them in the butt because they end up following the same trends. Robert Kirkman in particular goes *way too far* in criticizing Marvel & DC, and then turning around and copying what they do. Sometimes he even criticizes them about stuff he has Already Done. I can’t remember which issue it was in, but in a recent Walking Dead letter column, he criticized Marvel & DC for inflating their print runs with Loot Crate Variants, and this was something he would Never Do… but Walking Dead#132 already had huge numbers due to a Loot Crate Variant… did he forget? Someday when the Kirkman hype machine winds down, people are going to look back and see how arrogant he was.

      1. Walking Dead is Kirkman’s only book I enjoy. I also believe be landed a great story to become a great show because honestly, his writing is not the cream of the crop….
