Squirrel Girl and New Warriors Heading to TV

Comicbook.com had the story that the Freeform network, formerly ABC Family, will be bringing a 10 episode New Warriors TV show to air.
Squirrel Girl, who first appears in Marvel Super-Heroes #8 (aka Marvel Super-Heroes Winter Special). The New Warriors first appear in Thor #411(Cameo) and Thor #412 (first full and cover appearance). They will be sharing air time on the New Warriors TV show.

Marvel’s New Warriors has been ordered straight to series by Freeform. The new show will be a comedy featuring the Marvel Comics superhero team and the popular character of Squirrel Girl.
Kevin Biegel (Cougar Town, Scrubs) is nearing a deal to write the script and serve as the showrunner. The series has been given a 10-episode order, with each episode running 30 minutes long. That is the same episode count as Freeform’s other upcoming Marvel series Cloak and Dagger. The series is expected to debut 2018. Casting is expected to begin soon.

  1. I sense a quick flip of my dollar bin finds of Thor 411 and 412 in a near future :p

  2. Glad I picked up a raw MSH 8 recently at a small show. Cash got me 1/2 off the asking price.

  3. Hmmm..first Squirrel Girl is already pricey to get right now for quick flips and most cheap copies of Thor 411/12 have gone dry for a while now…. I guess it would depend on who joins her on the show. IF they use Speedball that could be a good one to get. NM’s online can still be found cheap for his first appearance (ASM annual #22), but it is just a total shot in the dark guess right now if he would be on the show or not.

  4. I’m convinced Speedball will be part of the cast. I mean he is a comedy based character in the comics, and his bounce powers can translate will to the small screen.
The show being a comedy, I believe speedball is a formality.
I have a gut feeling though that the show will introduce characters from the GLA, if not from the get go, at some later point in time.
Great lakes avengers and comedy go hand in hand and Squirrel Girl was a part of that team as well.
    MSH #8
    Thor #411 – 412
    ASM Ann #22
And to a lesser extent the GLA mimi-series and christmas special. Pret hard to come by
    My 2 cents1

  5. My daughter will be ecstatic! MSH #8 is pretty high already, but Squirrel Girl’s 2nd appearance in Marvel Year in Review ’92 is pretty cheap (has an awesome Punisher cover; hats off to Blind Adam for this tip some time ago).

  6. Since the original New Warriors was one of my favorite teams from back in the day all mine are strictly PC. Everytime I’m looking through Thor back issues it always goes from #410 to #413, everytime.

  7. I really like Squirrel Girl but don’t recall her having much to do with the New Warriors besides kinda dating Speedball for a bit (wasn’t that a thing)? I almost would prefer a GLA show with Squirrel Girl, but I’ll take whatever I can get!

    1. Thinking too he’s safe thing. If it’s comedy then the GLA would be a much better fit and series to me.
