Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 7/19/17:
Huge, wallet busting week this week. I need to be saving for Baltimore and NYCC, but I cannot pass up new comics, or back issues for that matter which I have been going nuts for. (Check out this weeks Anthony’s Pick Ups tomorrow for more.)
Returning Favorites
ALIENS DEAD ORBIT #3 – This is the bet Aliens book to come out in a while. Stokoe’s art fits it so well and is haunting.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN RENEW YOUR VOWS #9 – I am just picking these up for the Venomized MJ.
CURSE WORDS #6 – Still love this Charles Soule/Ryan Browne book, fantastic and funny.
DEADPOOL KILLS MARVEL UNIVERSE AGAIN #2 – Must pick up because Cullen Bunn writes dang good Deadpool.
DESCENDER #22 – Man make this movie already. I love the art an story on this one.
KILL THE MINOTAUR #2 – Didn’t think I would like the book as much as I did but the story behind King Minos and the Minotaur was a good first issue.
LETTER 44 #34 – Charles Soule started this book when he was a no-name. It is still going, but will be ending soon. It has been a wild ride.
PESTILENCE #3 – Loving this knights meet zombies book. Great read.
ROYAL CITY #5 – Lemire can do no wrong in my eyes and this family ghost story is incredible.
New #1
GENERATION GONE #1 – Interesting story and premise. Not the strongest creative team, but will give it a shot.
One For the Cover
HARLEY QUINN #24 FRANK CHO VARIANT – I do love me some Frank Cho cheesecake art. I recently put away about 50 Harley covers to get Cho to sign at Baltimore. His when are the best. This is the first part of the two connecting covers that I put up the other day.
The Quick Flips
ARCHIE #22 – There is a buzz for this, but do you really think (redacted) will stay (redacted) for long? Get them and flip them.
TRINITY #11 SIENKIEWICZ VARIANT – I love the cover and it is sold out everywhere, however, The last Sienkiewicz variant that popped dropped back down to cover price (looking at you Death of Hawkman)
AQUAMAN #26 MIDDLETON VARIANT – This one may be a short flip or a long term hold so I am plopping it here. Great looking cover but not sure it is enough to drive the prices up. Will wait and see.
The “Gotta Have It”
DUCKTALES #0 – I love Ducktales. One of those great cartoons from my childhood. I am sure I am not the only aging kids who grew up in the 90’s that will want one of these.
Small Press Gem
SISTERS OF SORROW #1 – This just looks cool. A Tarantino-esque movie in comic form, and I mean the early, gritty good Tarantino movies.
The Pick of the Week
TRUMP VS TIME LINCOLN #1 – Like I said before, love him or hate him, (and I really hate politics so no need to make comments for or against) Trump sells comics and his appearances on small press books end up flipping for good money. Throw in it is a Mad Max Fury Road spoof and, well, you may have a winner on your hands.
And this week’s New Comic Spec Review in case you missed it.

Not only was Duck Tales a great cartoon of our youth, it was also an awesome NES game. One of the best.
Too true.
It was really good.
And it’s now been Remastered for Playstation 3 with longer levels! The longer levels are cool, but I wish they’d let you bypass the cut scenes; after you’ve seen them once it’s a pain to have to sit through them again & again…
There was also a sequel game for NES, but I’ve never played it, and they didn’t bring that one back. I also really enjoyed the Darkwing Duck game.
I preordered the Dead Orbit TPB today. Stokoes art so suits the Alien franchise.
I picked up the single issues but planned to get the trade as well to finish reading the story line.
I feel like, “Trump VS Time Lincoln,” will be hard to get unless someone already ordered it as of all the comic shops in the Saint Louis area that I’ve ever visited, NONE of them carry books by Antarctic Press besides my once finding a, “Blade Bunny,” randomly or some issues of, “Golddigger,” sometimes. Maybe I’m just missing it, ,but I can’t recall really seeing the books much at all.
archie #22 will be hot for aiwle . can’t see them taking this back once it is gone blind adam out
I haven’t been spoiled yet (thankfully), but with Mark Waid still at the helm, I think he is willing to commit to the story and not feel forced to undo things to realign the status quo, and Archie has been very good about this since the big reboot. I never thought I would be reading (and liking) an Archie book on a regular basis. Who knew.
I buy two copies of all the Trump books. One to **** on and one to wipe with. Seriously, though, who buys these? I’ve asked around, and no one I know has any interest in them. My LCS says nobody there orders or even asks about them. Flip ’em while somebody wants ’em I guess, I feel like these will be gathering dust in dollar bins 10 years from now…
