Poyo's Picks for Sept 27, 2017

A week has passed to bring us yet, another Wednesday. Another new comic book Wednesday. Another week we seek out the best books. Books we read, flip or just simply collect. Let’s get to it then.
DC/Vertigo Pick
There’s not a whole lot this week for DC but the one that caught my attention is Batman The Murder Machine #1, which is a Dark Nights Metal tie-in. We shouldn’t look over these with new character potentials and or old characters that pop up.
Marvel Pick
Okay, there’s going to be a million of these, maybe more but I’m telling you to pick up Marvel Legacy #1. With Jason Aaron writing and Esad Ribic doing I think most of the artwork, this might end up as a good pick up. Not flip worthy but long term could pay off. Aaron and Ribic is what got me into Thor God of Thunder series, particularly the first 10 issues with the God Butcher and Godbomb story lines, probably one of the best Marvel story lines ever. If I’m recalling this correctly, this is the kickoff series that will push most of the mainstream titles to go back and pick up their original numbering of issues. But please, someone correct me if I’m wrong.
The quick flip potential goes to Spider-Gwen #24.. This one’s for you Alana! You’ve been preaching this for so long so I hope you’re right for those that hate Gwen but still like to make money to buy much better comic books.
The honorable mention goes to Star Wars Jedi of the Republic Mace Windu #2 Adi Granov 40th Anniversary variant.. the worlds longest comic book title ever. Drunkwooky claims this might be super hard to find, so take a chance and nab a copy if you find it, it might just pay off. Midtown has them for cover price and still available, so, why not? What’s the worst that could happen? You end up with a comic book with one of the classic scenes of Vader vs Kenobi.
Small Publisher Pick
Beautiful Death #1 (Titan) – Not sure if I’ve ever picked a Titan book but this one has my attention, maybe cause it’s the first Titan book that has only 2 covers to choose from.. nah, that can’t be it. It’s the description that caught my attention.
“The apocalypse has been and gone. The age of humanity is at an end. Horrifying insectile aliens from the depths of infinite space are now masters of the earth! what does resistance mean, when there’s nothing left to fight for? That’s what wayne, jeremiah, and soham, the only survivors of the devastating invasion, struggle with – seeking a glimpse of a future that justifies their futile presence on a ruined world. As they pick through the remains of human civilisation, keeping out of reach of the bugs, none of them suspect that they are part of a much larger plan, one that involves another, unknown survivor…”
This I don’t think will be a big spec flip or anything but I’m hoping its a great book to read first.
Indie Pick
Graveland #1 (Scout Comics) – I’m hoping this is first a) a good read and if not then b) it’s an easy sell with hopefully profit. This one could be a hit or miss. The story doesn’t come off as anything ground breaking but if done right, could be a great read.
Now, it’s on with the avoid of the week which goes to the special guy Wiebe and his new Rat Queens Special Orc Dave One Shot. Don’t waste your money unless you actually are back on the Rat Queens bandwagon and like reading this garbage. If you’re smart though, you’ll wait for your local shops 75% off holiday sale and pick this book up at a fraction of the price if you really really do want to read it. Just wait, seriously, wait to pick this up. Trust the chicken…
That’s all folks..

  1. I’m getting all of your picks except for one, the Marvel one. I forgot to mention last week I got your package, and you really do know how to pack your comics.
