Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 12/20/17:
Another semi-slow end of the year, but some books with some real potential as flips and for growth. Here we go:
Returning Favorites
Dark Nights Metal #4 – Sure there will be a huge print run on this, but these books will be collected for years to come. We have already given away the spoilers on it, but it us worth the pickup.
30 Days of Night #1 – Third series kicks off redoing the original series. I don’t expect this to heat up, but it will be a fun read.
Dark Fang #2 – A what if the Little Mermaid was a vampire. I liked the light-heartedness of the first one and will stick around for a while.
Spread #24 – Series is drawing to a close, hate to see it go but cannot wait to see how it ends.
Lazaretto #4 – I like Clay Chapman’s writing. He has done some great books. This one about college students quarantined in their dorm, as everything falls apart during a mystery out break, has been really good.
Infernoct #3 – I am loving Mina Elwell’s debut series. I had a chance to read issues 1 and 2 well before release and am happy to finally get new stuff.
For the Cover Art
Harley Quinn #33 Frank Cho Cover – I can honestly say I have no idea what is going on in the story, I collect it for the covers. Frank Cho does an awesome pencil art Christmas cover on this one.
Batman #37 Olivier Coipel Cover – Beautiful cover, fun story. Batman and Superman double date on Halloween. They switch costumes, so do Lois and Selena. Overall good read with a great cover.
DC has some other heavy-wight covers this week, including Superman #37 B (Jonboy Myers), Justice League #35 (JG Jones), and Batwoman #10 (Michael Cho)
Small Press Gem
Backways #1 – I am biased and like Justin Jordan’s writing. This is a trip new series from him. Worth picking up the first issue.
Small Press Flip
Sink #3 – Sure, stores have had a chance to catch on to the juggernaut of a small press book, but many shops do not even bother to go to the back of the Previews Catalogue. So not all stores will order this. Supply and demand. Grab and flip.
Small Press Pick of the Week
How The Trump Stole Christmas Gold Foil Variant – I cannot say the name of this book without laughing. Like I said in the New Comic Spec Review Video, I am not sure if it is Trump Fans or Haters who are buying these books, but I am doing well selling them.
Pick of the Week
Hellboy Krampusnacht One Shot Sketch Cover – Here we have Adam Hughes doing not only the cover, but the interior art as well. There is a regular Hughes cover, but the one to grab is the black and white sketch cover. It is cover price so do not let stores try to charge you more.
That is it for us this week, let us know what you are spec-ing on. And in case you missed it, here is the New Comic Spec Review video for 12/20/17

I may have to pick up Dark Fang now, it sounds interesting.
I actually found myself pretty let down by it (having just read the first issue). I thought it sounded really cool too, but eh.
Nothing big this week but lots of nice books. Thanks for the preview.
Sorry..I would have mentioned the 40th Anniversary covers coming out from Star Wars. They are looking pretty nice.
