Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 1/17/18

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 1/17/18:

Big week this week so we will skip the returning favorites as there are so many.
The Ones for the Cover Art
Aquaman #32 Coipel Variant –  Joshua Middleton Cover Josh Middleton provides a gorgeous cover featuring Mera. Already sold out at Midtown.
Batman #39 Olivier Coipel Cover – Another knock out from Coipel. These are going to be a great set. Hard to pronounce name, beautiful covers.
Harley Quinn #35 Frank Cho Cover – the book end to last week’s #34. this week she is saying hello to 2018.
The New Image #1’s
Days Of Hate #1 – Ales Kot’s new book His work can be hit or miss. Another political book. I wouldn’t go crazy for this, but if you like Ales Kot grab one
Further Adventures Of Nick Wilson #1 – Another new Image book, this one looks more promising. Nick Wilson is a washed up former superhero who has lost his powers and trying to find his way in the world.
Ice Cream Man #1 – a very weird existential horror book.  it is being described as a genre-defying comic book series featuring disparate ‘one-shot’ tales of sorrow, wonder, and redemption. Could have a shot. Will probably sell out.
The Odd Marvel Ones on the List
Avengers #676 – Mark Brooks provides an awesome cover for the book. It features  the return of Thanos’ Black Order who are in the upcoming Avengers Infinity War Movie. Potential new character.
Doctor Strange #384 – Donny Cates Marvel work has been on fire, this one looks interesting by the cover alone. What has Dr. Strange bonded with at the Tree of Life?
The Fan Favorite
Terry Moore’s Strangers in Paradise XXV #1 There is a regular and variant sketch cover for it. Strangers was picked up for a media deal not long ago and these could see some heat if it takes off. This is all without mentioning Mr. Moore’s incredible writing and art.
The Cheap Read
Go West #1 – New newsprint comic for $1.50. I have been enjoying these cheap reads and this gory tale of revenge looks great. Will it heat up, probably not but it is a great cheap read.
Picks of the Week
Call of the Suicide Forest #1 – the sequel to El Torres’ book about Japan’s notorious ‘suicide forest’ at the base of Mount Fuji. The forrest has been in the news lately and this series has been awesome. If you can find the old IDW series, or the newer Amigo stuff, pick it up. Already selling for multiple times cover price.
Teether #1 – Out from Antarctic Press.Gore-drenched new horror series is already sold out at many places online. We did do a variant for this book because it looked so interesting, those sites are selling for $40 and up on eBay You can find the sets, which come with a regular cover and a copy of the variant, here. The regular alone is selling for $10
And in case you missed it, here is the New Comic Spec Review Video for 1/17/18…

  1. I was bummed that the sketch variant on SIP is actually a blank variant. Bring your own sketch…

  2. I have never read SIP, but after Rachel rising and motor girl I can’t pass up any Terry Moore
