Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 4/11/18

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 4/11/18:

Returning Favorites
Avengers #688 – great looking Mark Brooks regular cover. NO SURRENDER Part 14, great story line so far.

Scooby Apocalypse #24 Trevor Hairsine Cover – Not sure which column to put this is, it is a returning favorite, and I do like the trevor Hairsine cover… Sold out at many places online.

Beauty #21 – One of my favorite books on the stands. Seriously, pick up the first trade and give it a chance.

Gideon Falls #2 – First issue was awesome. Looking forward to more weirdness.

For the Cover
Justice League Of America #28 Francesco Mattina Cover (available on eBay) – another fantastic cover from Mattina, for cover price.

Supergirl #20 Artgerm Cover – Artgerm’s run on the covers is ending and Artgerm is moving to Catwoman.

The Odd Marvel on the List
Exiles #1 – looks fun, I loved previous incarnations of the series.

New Image #1’s
Crude #1 – Steve Orlando’s new book. Very cool book, I have read an advance copy.

Dead Hand #1 – Very different take on the “Super-Spy” genre. Worth picking up.

The Cheap One
True Believers Infinity Gauntlet #1 – These are actually second prints. Not bad investments, a lot of them are going for several times cover price. You won’t get rich off them but when the Infinity Gauntlet movie comes out you will be able to flip easily. Not bad for just a buck. Do not pass these up.

Because Cullen Bunn
Brothers Dracul #1 – I am a big fan of Cullen Bunn’s work. He is a very versatile writer. He does great horror. This book takes a look at the young Dracula.

The Outside Chance
Haunted High-Ons One Shot (available on eBay) – originally released at NYCC. Sold out at most online shops with eBay listings in the $10 range. Juggalo fans might chase this one. Has crossover potential.

Small Press Gem
Fractured Mind #1 – out from Red 5 Comics. Small Press book with small print run. I think Red 5 will get more media attention on deals. Haunted was optioned a long time ago and we had another option this past week for one of their books.

Small Press Pick of the Week
Supermansion #1 Spin off on the Crackle TV series. A few years back a one shot was given away at NYCC and they sold well. Not sure Crackle has the audience for a huge successful comic translation, but worth a look, but I did say the same thing about Adventure Time Comics. Classic ‘Demon in a Bottle’ homage cover. Could be odd-ball enough to catch on.

The Pick of the Week
Thanos #18 (available on eBay) – selling out on-line and sold out at Diamond. Last issue of the series. Conclusion to an epic run. Almost no regular copies listed on eBay at the moment. I find that odd…
That is it for this week, let us know what you are spec-ing on. And in case you missed it, here is this week’s New Comic Spec Review Video for 4/11/18

  1. Tons of thanos listed for cover as of now, even the venom variant to boot. Also brothers dracul is a young vlad the impaler, but is dracula included? That would be neat

    1. I think Bros. Dracul is a about a young Vlad the Impaler and his brother. I think the story is about how Vlad became the sadistic war monger that he became, so I do not believe the story will feature an actual Dracula, vampire styles.

      1. I think this will be the hidden gem this week. I love anything Cullen Bunn does, especially his horror.

  2. I like Cullen Bunn but it seems he has way too many books going on. Seems like his books kind of suffer the more he has on his plate. Dude needs to slow it down. What’s that saying.. Quality over quantity? Yeah.. that’s it. He needs to apply that principle I think, some of his titles are suffering and I lost interest and or had no interest in picking up and I contribute that to the amount of books he currently has going on.

    1. +50…..most of what he writes now is garbage. Just like what Lemire did…..trying to put out 20 books per month really hammers the quality down.
