Each week, hundreds of new comics hit the shelves, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 9/19/18:
Interesting week. This list can change as we get spoilers in throughout the day so keep checking back.
Returning Favorites
Little Girl #2 – Small press horror always is on the lookout for me. Great story so far, vengeful spirit of a little girl. In the realm of Grudge and Ring.
House Of Waxwork #2 – a great new anthology from Waxworks comics. Donny Cates story in it. Small Press so small print run, could be hard to find and could be an easy sale as Halloween approaches.
DC Killer B’s
Aquaman #40 Joshua Middleton Cover – sold out at some online retailers already, and being limited to 1 per customer at Midtown. These are great for the PC and for the quick flip. But if you are looking to sell do not hold long as the cool off as quick as they heat up. Still available for cover.
Batman #55 Francesco Mattina Cover – Great looking cover again great for the personal collection. No stores are under ordering Batman, so this should be an easy find.
Justice League #8 Jim Lee & Scott Williams Cover – this is already Limit 1 Per Customer at Midtown and selling out online. Again, not going to sneak up on any retailers but it is an incredible Joker cover
Harley Quinn #50 Frank Cho cover – another one of Frank Cho’s less serious covers. I like Cho’s funny covers as much as his black and white line art covers. It is a nice balance.
Marvel Killer B’s
Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 – a sweet Variant Gabriele Dell Otto Cover. This shouldn’t be too hard to find but some stores might not bother ordering the B covers on the annual. Great cover with long term potential.
The DC Must Grab
Batman Damned #1 – starts off the new DC imprint DC Black Label. This is by Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo. A regular and Jim Lee B cover on this one.
New IMAGE #1
Burnouts #1 – new stoner humor comic starting this week from Image. A secret Alien invasion, but they can only be seen if you are completely baked. Three covers on this one including Comic Book Legal Defense Fund covers. Do not see this heating up, but Image #1’s do tend to sell out
Small Press Pick of the Week
Junior High Horrors #1 – Small press book from Keenspot. Will have a small print run and could be hard to find. Four covers on this one and all sold out at Midtown. Follows the story of JV, Mikey, Nancy, and Laurie. A cross between horror film iconography with retro Saturday morning cartoon style. Will appeal to horror fans.
Big Two Pick of the Week
Edge Of Spider-Geddon #3 – must pick up for Marvel. Selling out online already. Features a new spider-character, a spider-powered Uncle Ben.
Thats it for this week. do not forget to stop by the open forum to let us know what you are speccing on. And in case you missed it, here is the New Comic Spec Review video for the week.

Isnt there a new character out in a marvel comic this week? Oh wait, that’s every marvel comic every week.
Actually, Mr. And Mrs. X #3 that has a new character…Prof. Xs daughter?
yep sleeper of the week. new Xavier child omega level mutant
We’ll have to wait and see how the masses respond. I saw the release of the pages, it’s a meh for me but then again, I’ve been meh for most if not all of X-Men for quite some time.
X-men spec has been pretty dead as of late. I’ll wait for uncanny relaunch to see where things are going before I bother with this.
Agreed, should probably be there with Spider-Geddon as a pick of the week. Never know the future potential of these appearances.
with Charles only having 1 other kid (legion) i find this to be better spec than lobo’s daughter
So Image’s new book “Burnouts” is just a total take off the movie “They Live” but instead of being stoned it was the special sunglasses.
Which by the way was a freaking great movie. I caught it once on TV and had to watch it. The wife caught a glimpse of it, shook her head and left the room. My wife doesn’t share my love of cheesy 80s movies..
I was thinking the same thing, that’s the only reason I might pick up a copy of Burnouts.
Best line ever in a movie,”I came here to chew bubble gum and kick ass and I’m all out of bubblegum..”
Love that fight between Roddy and Keith David! Sometimes I really miss 1980’s sci fi!
I want that on a t-shirt.. with his mug on it. That would be the best t-shirt ever!
🙂
I was actually hoping Frank Cho would soon be wrapping up his run on Harley. Don’t get me wrong, I love his work, but Lord, that HQ is a terrible book to read.
I would be happy for that reason as well. I do not even read the book, just collect the covers.
I’d like to see him move to Supergirl or Batgirl.
Junior High Horrors is already being listed well above cover, https://ebay.to/2xzPuqe , and selling for above cover price as well, https://ebay.to/2xoeFwF
