Batman #56 Foil is out in stores tomorrow. I had a chance to look through about 100 copies in stores tonight looking for a 9.8 or better, I mean after al, the foil covers will be thicker right? I figured I would grade one at NYCC.
The problem is the covers I saw, about 100 of them, were terrible. The problem is the covers are thin, not thick cover stock but foil applied to what feels like the regular thin cover stock. They dent easily. My finger nail touched one and dented it instantly. Its as if the covers were made from gum foil. I didn’t see nearly as many problems on the other foils, and cannot speak for other stores, but here are some examples of what I saw, and these are the better copies. So if you are grabbing copies tomorrow, good luck!

Ugh…after seeing the Detective 880 foil I had some hope these would turn out alright….but now I’m not so sure…oh well, these likely spec material anyway.
Thats weak. I was hoping for Dark Knights Metal thickness. I wonder if this will be all prints of the foils bc some of them looked great.
We order a lot of Batman, and every copy we received had identical damage. I don’t think it’s going to be a matter of finding one in good condition – I think every issue across that print is damaged. Every shop I’ve seen that’s mentioned it on retailer forums reports the same thing.
That stinks! Well, feel free to share the post on the retailer forum Jake. Let the retailers know we feel it too.
Man that sucks. You think there would have been some better quality control.
Midtown Times Square, all of the copies were beat up like the ones Tony posted. I passed. Seems like most of the other foil covers out this week were the same.
Same story here. The Green Arrow and Green Lanterns we have a few borderline 9.6/9.8s in the stack. The Batmans there are no copies even at 9.2.
My shipment was the same .. disappointed, to say the least .. my Pull and Hold folks won’t likely complain as they buy to read .. bagged and boarded all rack copies in order to prevent further deterioration ..
That’s too bad, but at least if they are all mostly like that then shouldn’t it not really effect value? The best copies will still be the best copies.
So my Batman up here in Canada has identical damage, but all the other titles were fine.
This makes me glad I only pre-ordered about 4 or 5 covers out of all of them.
Same for me. Couldn’t find a single one at my LCS that wasn’t banged up. Decided to pass all together and went with the Cover B option.
All Batmans had the damage. Th other foils i saw looked 9.6/9.8. I may have to grab a green lantern and green arrow.
I’m kinda surprised they didn’t include the piece of paper around the exterior like they did for Tec 880….must only do that for pricey exclusives.
In reality none of these foils have any real spec value unless there’s a new character or some key event inside e covers…so just grab the best one you can find and call it a day.
I’m a sucker for a gimmick though. I’ll get them all.
I bought it just to read it, not like it’ll ever be worth anything anyway
