Poyo's Spec and Drek for December 5th, 2018

This week is already starting off strong with some likely winners.

Lots of indie books are hitting store shelves that area already seem to be taking off. Unless there are some surprises from the big two, the winners are likely elsewhere.
DC/Vertigo Pick
Martian Manhunter #1 Middleton Cover B is my DC pick this week.
I like Middleton’s work and it’s actually refreshing to see him do something more than just realistic looking women for a cover.
It’s really nothing special either to be honest but I think the colors just stand out to make it eye catching for me. I’m also hoping that Steve Orlando revitalizes this character as I think he can be more of a prominent figure in the DC Universe if done right.
Marvel Pick
I’m really starting to appreciate In-Hyuk Lee’s artwork.
There have certainly been some winners from this artist, particularly his higher ratio variants.
I’m not reading Hulk currently but The Immortal Hulk #10 has a great looking In-Hyuk Lee Conan vs. Marvel Heroes variant.
Already sold out at most online retailers, grab’em if you find’em. I don’t think this one will heat up like some of this other works but still a great pickup for anyone who’s collecting his covers.
Don’t forget to pick up a Cover A as well. There’s already some buzz on this book and what’s upcoming for the Hulk. The rest of this title seems to be slowly gaining traction since issue #2 as well, which became a $25 book at one point with the 1st appearance of Dr. Frye.
Small Publisher Pick
Issue one took off and was a clear winner when it debuted.
There’s also a 2nd print for #1 hitting stands this week which is selling out as fast as #2.
So it makes sense to make issue #2 the pick of the week for the small publisher pick. Perhaps both books are picks at this point in time as they’re both good picks and will be hard to come by as I think most retailers slept on this series.
Indie Pick
This next one is a no brainer. Pre-sales have already jumped over to the $50 range.
This one seems to stay as hot as Batman Damned #1. Seems every week we’re talking about this Antarctic Press book.
So if you can find them, grab’em, cause just like the first print, I have a feeling this one will be just as hard to come by. The Indie pick goes to Rags #1 2nd print.
But wait, there’s more indie books we need to discuss that are also worth mentioning.
Ogre #2 from Source Point Press hits stands and is already selling out online. The first issue saw some decent success for those that sold early. Riptide #4 from Red 5 hits stands as well which has also seen some nice success for earlier issues.

Now on with the dreaded “avoid” pick, every writer and artist worst nightmare when it comes to selling their hard work.
Mark Millar’s Prodigy. There’s like 8 covers and that’s not counting any store exclusives. Pick the one cover you like and leave it at that if you plan to read it.
